"Vasthadu Naa Raju Ee Roju
Raane Vasthaadu nela raju ee roju
Karthika Punnami Velalona
Kaliki vennala keratala paina.."

ever heard this beautiful song oozing with telugu'ness ..most of you probably did many many times. These lyrics are written by none other than Gnanpeeth Award winner Dr. Carre Narayana Reddy often referred as Cinare. Cinare is one of those very few gifted people who can write popular songs at one end as well as immaculate classical poetry at the other end.

Dr. C.Narayana Reddy was born on July 29th, 1931 at Hanumajipeta, a remote village in the interior of Karimnagar district. He completed his Master's degree and Ph.D. degree in Telugu literature from Osmania University. He worked in Osmania University as a professor and attained very high positions and earned many awards. It could be surprising to learn that Dr.CNR studied in Urdu medium till his graduation. Dr.CNR is the only Telugu person who has received Gnanpeeth award other than Sri Vishwanadha Sathyanarayana. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha later. Students of Dr.CNR are often heard recollecting his grip over the language, especially his poetry reading sessions.

It was in the year 1962, the movie was "Gulebaavali Katha". Nataratna Dr.NTR requested this great personality to write a song for that movie, and C.Narayana Reddy garu entered into our beloved tollywood with the song "Nannu dochu kunduvate...vannela dorasani", the song became an instant hit and offers from producers knocked his door very often. His songs became so popular that people used to flock to theaters just to hear his beautiful songs.

Cinare continued his winning streak in tollywood with films like Atmabanduvu, chaduvukunna ammayilu, pujaphalam, Bobbiliyuddam, paramanandayya shishyula katha, chikkadu dorakadu, Lakshmi kataaksham, badipantulu, pandanti kapuram, Alluri Sitaramaraju, chanakya chandragupta , shivaranjani, etc to contemporary movies like atta nee koduku jagratta . Cinare also wrote dialogues for the movie "Ekavira".

Cinare has written hundreds of songs for many Telugu movies, although in quantity he has written less songs than many other filmi lyricists, his songs are highly popular. It was heard in an interview that he prefers to write few good songs than many cheap songs, hence he prefers to write only for a few selected movies rather than a whole bunch.

We often hear and see people going to the theaters for heroes, heroines, directors, banners etc, but how many lyricists are fortunate enough to learn that people come to movies to hear their lyrics - C.Narayana Reddy is the only person to have this rare distinction. Idlebrain.com salutes this great personality for his outstanding contribution to Telugu literature and Telugu Cinema.
