An open letter to Chiru

Hi Chiru,

Ever since Indra released in India, rather ever since people started talking about that movie I was waiting to watch that movie hoping that it would be a great one. Finally I happened to watch it. First of all I liked the experience of watching a movie among so many fans. It's been a real long time and I enjoyed it to the max. The environment in the theatre was so exciting. And the crowd went berserk for each one of your mind-blowing steps. And I have to mention the "Dayi Dayi Damma" song here. Its not just "Dayi Dayi Damma" but its more like "Oh my God --- Dayi Dayi Damma". Really… your dance in that song was too good. And you also looked a lot slimmer in this movie. Your action was impeccable and some of your new mannerisms were awesome.

But still… the movie on the whole left a lot to be desired. Yet again you elevate an average movie to the super hit range… yet again. Don't you get tired doing that? When will we see a movie that elevates "YOU" to a different level? How long will you keep carrying mediocre films on your shoulders? True… you did experiment with roles like Daddy etc. but they felt more like "playing safe". Where is the conflict in your characters? Why always a guy who can do no wrong? How about a failed guy fighting the demons of his own mind alongside the bad guys? How about a failed leader looking for redemption? How about a leader who doesn't run away and hide in a different city but just tries to fight it through? How about it? Will we ever get to watch your movie and say "Oh my god… what a movie"? All we get to say is "Oh… Chiru was awesome". When will the fusion be... that of a great movie and the enormous talent that you are?

Its been 25 years for you in this industry and I have been your fan for the past 16 years but still if I ask myself to name a memorable role done by you… I just can't do it. So… the wait continues… for a great movie from you.

I'm not trying to run down "Indra". It is a good entertainer. But unfortunately that's all it is. Nothing more. Nothing less. Asking too much? I know. But imagine… a movie or role that would make people say, "There's no one else like Chiru". (Not that there is) Is that asking too much? I certainly hope not.

Thanks,

Buzz
