You've Got Mail (1998)

Cast: Tom Hanks , Meg Ryan , Parker Posey
Director: Nora Ephron
Rating: fullstarfullstarfullstarfullstar-
Enetertainment Quotient: entertainment 60%
Genre: Love
Theme: cyber chat

Synopsis:
The woman has a boy friend. The man has a girl friend. They meet on AOL chat on the Net, become very good friends, yet hide their real identities. In reality, the woman is the owner of smalltime bookstore. The man is a rich guy who owns a huge super bookstore in the same neighborhood. The woman is forced out of business due to man’s fancy super bookstore. What happens when they finally decide to meet each other forms the crux of the story.

What is unique in the film?
It is a relationship-based film with two people leading dual lives. They are friends in their life on the Net and enemies in real life. This film depicts in detail how the Net helps people drop their mask and unburden themselves to another compassionate person. The screenplay is good and the film touches your heart. I also loved the way in which dialogues from the film Godfather are used as a reference in this film.

Tailpiece:
Tom Hanks come to know that it is Meg Ryan his Internet chat friend and then takes the control of situation by keeping her in the dark. I feel that it is unfair for any person in the relationship to take control of situation and keep the other person in the dark. Strangely Meg Ryan does not react in a negative way when she comes to know about it in the climax.
