Nobody
bought Anand for 5 lakhs MG for Nizam before release
There is an interesting story behind Anand film. Producer Sekhar
Kammula offered Anand to entire Nizam territory for 5 lakhs on
MG basis (MG basis means that the producer and distributor would
share the amount it collected beyond 5 lakhs by 50/50). Nobody
dared to buy it even after 11 preview shows. Sekhar Kammula released
the film on his own. After getting the hit talk, Sekhar sold the
rest of Nizam and held the rights of twin cities to himself. And
in 50 days, this film collected around 95 lakhs of share. If somebody
bought Anand before the film’s release for 5 lakhs on MG
basis, he would have minted a profit of 45 lakhs, which is 9 times
the investment in just 50 days.
Return
on investment is 1:3.5
In all other areas, the buyers who bought Anand film at a throwaway
price got Rs. 3.50/- profit on every rupee they invested. On the
whole, Anand film stood as a big moral support and is giving confidence
to the new film directors who want to make sensible films.
