For the first time in the history of Telugu TV, a TV serial is made and telecast on expensive 3-D format. 40 lacs of 3-D glasses were given to the TV viewers free of cost. This serial will be screened in Zee Telugu from 30 December onwards.
The unit arranged a press meet today which was attended by Ravi & Vivekananda (GV Films), Sanjay Reddy (ZEE Telugu CEO) and Seeta Devi (Zee Telugu). This weekly serial will be telecast half hour every week for 26 weeks. Mayavi is an action adventure fantasy thriller in the lines of Superman/Spiderman. This serial won the Jury’s special Award at Seoul Drama Awards, 2007
Synopsis of Mayavi
The hero of the story is popularly Known as Mayavi (steel handed phantom). His real name is Vikram. He is an agent of a highly secret organization Knows as other PRESIDENT’s XI. His code name in the organization is AXE-5.
He is highly skilled fighting machine with sharp brains that is needed for investigation. He loses his right hand in a covert operation, fighting the enemies courageously against all odds. Not wantiong to lose such a great man the organization gets the top research scientists in the defense department fit him with a special steel hand. The hand itself is a miracle of modern technology. Each finger of the hand is deadly weapon. The index finger shoots, the middle finger discharges electricity, the ring finger emits a gas that makes people unconscious and the little finger has a transmitter built into it for the radio that is in the palm of the steel h and. The hand can also be detached and made to move by itself by a remote. But the special freakish power that gives the hero his name ‘’Mayavi’’ is the ability to become invisible for some time when charged with electricity.
With these special powers he becomes a living legend in fighting crime. He is the nemesis of all evilmen throughout the world.
BACKGROUND OF THE PLOT
Being a fantasy thriller based on a legendary comic book hero, we had to build an aura around the main character Mayavi. Mayavi is a mysterious character whose right hand is made of steel endowed with magic powers. When he comes into contact with electricity his whole body disappears and only the steel hand is seeen by the subjects. Mayavi’s steel hand embodies special powers with each of the five finger capable of drawing from one of the five basic elements fire, wing, water, earth, ether. This scenario called for creating highly stylized, hi teach looking locales, backdrops and props for the Hero Mayavi to eveolve into a larger than life character achiving the utmost impossible tasks. His opposite character the villain is an even more possessed character with a dark past whoembodies devilish powers and is extremely powerful. This clash of the titans is the central theme with each character coming from extreme varied background that needed clever handling of interplay. The entire serial is shot in a magnum opus cinema feel which the viwers here have already started acknowledging
APPPEAL OF THE SERIAL
This serial is partly science fiction and partly an action oriented spy thriller. This would be the first of is kind in the television. This genre had not been attempted at all in regional televisions. So it is a sort of pioneering effort.
This serial would attract a wide variety of audience but particularly to the age group of seven to seventeen because of its comic book appeal. People in their twenties and thirties would also like it as it would be like reading a racy spy thriller novel The female audience will be allured and attracted towards this serial by having key female characters and problems faced by them.
Background of SDA 2007 Awards :
Seoul drama Awards considered as the equivalent of the oscar Awards of television serials and shows is a global event that attracts entries from leading Television content production houses from across the globe. At Seoul Mayavi – the first –ever 3D magnum opus Television serial – is the sole and first ever Indian Winner in Jury’s Special Awards for Excellence in TV Drama.
The SDA 2007, attracted 130 entries in 20 categories from some of the leading international production houses including from India of which 34 were short listed for nominations. This year’s edition of the Seoul Drama Awards presented its top prizes to TV works from India, Japan, China and South korea.
The other notable winners in this year’a awards include, Beijing JC&AL’s ‘’The Great Revival’’, Fuji TV’s ‘’Nodame Cantabile’’, KBS’s ‘’A Dwarf Launches a Smalll Ball’’, Australian entry ‘’Mortified’’, Bavaria Media GmbH’s drama ‘’can’’ from Germany,Top acting honors went to Japanese actor Kimura Takuya for ‘’ Family’’ and Helen Mirren for her role in ‘’Prime Suspect 7’’.\
An international jury headed by Larry Gershman, Chairman of the Emmy Commmittee, Chose the awards from the total nominations. The awards presentation ceremony was held in KBS Hall in Seoul. This year’s event timed to coincide with the BCWW (Broadcast world wide) conference, was noted for throwing a wider international net with participation from India, Argentina, ukrakine, Jordan, Brazil, Germany and Belgium. A quick browse through the categories and the winners tell the ture story of its pan global appeal and popularity.
Above all as a Direct result of this year’s award Mayavi has attracted keen interest in 3D from some of the Asian, European and Australian Television Channels to thelecast Mayavi in their respective languages or with English sub titles. In the BCWW, GV films has effectively furthered the interest in 3D content and is currently in talks for 3D content production Services with a Swedish and Australian media Houses besides a couple of Korean Broadcasters.
