Non-cooperation
for Kannada film industry by other film industries
Karnataka
Film industry has taken an undemocratic decision of not allowing
simultaneous release of non-Kannada films in Karnataka. All
new films of other languages should release only after 7 weeks.
With pirated VCD being circulated all over Karnataka, the film
lovers would be viewing the films even before the release in
Karnataka due to rampant piracy.
All
non-Kannada film industries joined together to form a Joint
Action Committee with G Adiseshagiri Rao as the convener. Hindi
film industry's bigwigs like Yash Chopra and Manmohan Shetty
attended along with Tamil and Telugu producers today to let
the press know the decision they have taken.
The
Joint Action Committee has taken decision to extend non-cooperation
to Kannada film industry through various channels like
1.
No Kannada actor or technician would be allowed to work in Non-Kannada
films.
2. No Non-Kannada actor or technician would be allowed to work
in Kannada films.
3. Not allowing shooting of Kannada films outside Karnataka
within India.
4. Not allowing Kannada dubbed/remake films in other languages
5. Not allowing Kannda to dub or remake other language films.
6. All other amenities enjoyed by all film industries through
central bodies.
Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra described the attitude
of Karnataka film industry as dictatorial and undemocratic,
which is against the spirit of making films. He had been trying
to meet the concerned bodies in Karnataka to discuss about the
same, but in vein.
Filmmaker
Manmohan Shetty said that Karnataka film industry should live
and let others live than isolating itself with moratorium on
non-Kannada films. An embargo on services provided to Karnataka
might straighten the things. He also said that there are 4 multi-screen
multiplexes are coming up in Bangalore and they are going to
suffer huge losses. PVR group has constructed an 11-screen multiplex
and it is waiting for the moratorium to end so that the business
would take place. There should not be monopoly in a globalized
city like Bangalore.
G
Adiseshgiri Rao and D Suresh Babu also spoke on this occasion.
The estimated loss per non-Kannada film due to moratorium is
as follows
Hindi
film (big star cast): 2-3 crores
Telugu Film (big star cast): 1-2 crores
Tamil Film (big star cast): 50 lakhs
D Suresh Babu said that they have been taking on these steps
so that Karnataka film industry would come for negotiations
on the ground rule that there would simultaneous release of
other languages films with certain strings attached.
A
producer under anonymity said that Kannada thespian Raj Kumar
is playing with the sentiments of Kannada people by forcing
moratorium. The Kannada people want films of other languages,
but there is a group of selfish people with vested interest
are responsible for moratorium.
