Veteran Bollywood actor Pran is going to be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. He began his acting career early 1940s and quickly rose to fame as a villain in Hindi films. From 50s to early 80s, Pran had become a prominent character artist and some of the biggest hits in Indian cinema like Zanjeer, Roop Tera Mastana, Andha Kanoon had him play supporting roles and also villainous roles. He also acted in couple of Telugu films like Tandra Paparayudu and Kodama Simham. By mid 1990s, he had stopped doing films citing health issues and in the past fifteen years, he has appeared in films only on rare occasions. Pran has already been conferred with Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
