While it’s still three months away from a big screen rollout, Vijay Deverakonda-starrer Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh, is making waves on the business front. Multiple sources tell us that the film, which is riding high on expectations, has almost hit a ton (of crores) from non-theatrical revenue so far. A source close to the production team tells us that music giant Sony has bagged the musical rights of all languages combined for Rs 14 crore, while Star network has acquired the satellite and digital rights of all languages by paying an astronomical amount of Rs 85 crore, taking the total tally to 99 crore. “The film is yet to kick off promotions but there is immense positive buzz surrounding it in Mumbai, ensuring that the interested parties bid high prices for it. The makers will take a call on the all India theatrical business soon. There are some reports that Warangal Sreenu has snatched rights of majority Telugu areas for a fancy sum but it’s far from true. Like some other Nizam heavyweights, he is a potential contender for sure given that he made a windfall out of distributing Puri’s iSmart Shankar in Nizam but the rights haven’t been sold yet to anyone yet. The discussions, to this end, are going on,” points out the source.

An emotional action-drama, Liger’s first glimpse was unveiled on December 31st last year. It showcased Deverakonda’s journey from being a ‘chaiwaala’ in Mumbai to becoming a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, who eventually competes in the United States. A glimpse of Ronit Roy's character, who appeared to be Vijay Deverakonda's trainer in the film, also dotted the teaser. The film also features Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishna, Ali, Makarand Deshpande and Mike Tyson.

A joint production venture between Karan Johar, Charmme Kaur, Apoorva Mehta and Hiroo Yash Johar under Puri Connects and Dharma Productions, Liger will be storming into cinema halls on August 25. Shot in Hindi and Telugu, the film will also open in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada simultaneously.
