Robin Super -8 wins ‘Pace Trophy” of the Danthala Meher Baba Memorial Community Cricket tournament organized by Robin Singh Cricket Foundation and Sandeep Entertainments. Cricket Hawks were runner – up and received “Payal Trophy”. The tournament is organized every year in memory of Danthala Meher Baba, great Cricket player from Andhra Pradesh, India. The fun filled annual Cricket tournament was held at BSP cricket fields in Mississauga/Brampton area. 18 teams from all over GTA participated in the Tournament and over 400 people came to watch the games.

Speaking on the occasion Arun Kumar Layam, Director of the Robin Singh Cricket foundation said, ‘The tournament got tremendous response this year with 18 teams participating in day long event and the best part is the women, kids joined the players in watching the game and enjoying the festive like atmosphere at the grounds. The teams took the games seriously and many hard fought games went to last over and last ball. Cricket Hawks fielded 2 teams with all players sporting colourful jerseys and providing their traditional sweet dish to all the players and the people who attended the game. Cricket Hawks team Manager, Abdul Munaff and Dr. Bobby Baig played a key role in organizing and creating this festive atmosphere”.

After 17 games of knock out format games, Robin Super – 8 Captioned by Arun Kumar and Cricket hawks, Captioned by Dr. Bobby Baig reached Finals. The finals was the best game of the tournament where both teams faught for every run with respective fans and supporters cheering their teams. Robin Super – 8 batted first and scored 116 in 8 overs with Gary Garewal top scoring with 30 by scoring huge sixers. Syaf and Hamid chipped in with 25 and 21 respectively. Chasing 113, Cricket Hawks lost quick wickets early on but the Cricket Hawks Captain Dr. Bobby Baig played sensibly picking right ball to hit. Robin Super – 8 Captain, Arun Kumar came to bowl 7th over picking up 2 wickets which sealed the game for Robin Super – 8 and Robin Super 8 won by 26 runs.

Srikanth Danthala with 248 runs in the tournament with a century and another 98 was adjudged Player of the tournament. Dr. Bobby Baig was adjudged best batsmen and Viren as best bowler. Fahad and Nida Hauqe Shared Super sixes Challenge trophy. “Team here for Beer” was adjudged “Most entertaining and sportive team of the tournament” and their Captain, Gokul Kamat received the trophy.

Dipika Damerla, MPP, Mississauga East Crooksville was the Chief Guest of the tournament and she addressed the gathering and said” I am very delighted to see the response and the way the tournament held and enjoyed the finals a lot. She also said, its good idea to involve all the teams come out a play a tournament like this which will be completed in one day with all the women and kids coming enjoying the event.” Later she along with Ellora Patnaik of Prosthodontic Associates presented the trophies to winners and runners up of the tournament. Prosthodontic Associates, Toronto gave away gift hampers along with Trophies.

Director of Robin Singh Cricket Foundation, Arun Kumar Layam thanked Dr. Bobby Baig of Prosthodontic Associates, Toronto for being the main sponsor of the tournament. Arun also thanked Payal Banquet hall, Curve IT and Popular mortgages for sponsoring the tournament and making it a grand success. Arun Kumar conveyed special thanks to Nagendra, Prakash and Srihari for coordinating all the games.
