On October 18th Telugu members of Indian diaspora in New Jersey celebrated Diwali, splendidly organized by the Telugu Fine Arts Society (TFAS) at East Brunswick Middle School. The event was attended by NJ State Assembly Deputy Speaker Upendra Chivukula, AP State Legislative Assembly Member Narendra Dulipala, and world renowned cancer specialist Dr. Dattatreya Srinori. Also present to entertain the gathered members with their song, music and standup comedy were artists from back home, popular comedian Sri Ali, and prominent movie singers Sri Karunya and Smt. Hima Bindu.

The event ceremoniously started at 4:00 Pm with Laxmi puja and lighting of ornamental lamps by TFAS trustees Mrs. Uma Makam, Mrs. Sridevi Jagrlamudi, and Smt. Bindu Madiraju. Leading the evening’s proceedings, TFAS President Srinivas Gandi welcomed the guests and members, and outlined the organizations accomplishments, activities, and future plans under the current TFAS leadership through an audio visual presentation.

The evening’s celebrations were sprinkled with multiple events and included an awards ceremony – prizes handed out by Mrs. Jagrlamudi, Smt. Madiraju and Anand Paluri, ex-president of TFAS. A highlight of this year’s Diwali contests was a literary summit hosted under “Sahitya Bharathi” banner led by Mrs. Radha Kashinaduni, member of Telugu Jyothi, Dr. Vaidehi Sashidhar, and Bharathi Bhavaraju in which many enthusiasts participated. Also, much appreciated by the crowds were dance, music and entertainment programs performed by local and visiting artists; and efforts by TFAS to honor and recognize the contribution of community leaders and elders.

At 6 PM attendees were treated with a sumptuous dinner hosted by TFAS – efforts were led by TFAS Vice President Guru Alampalli. The event included exhibits from many local business houses to showcase their services and products, which were explored in large numbers by attendees. Additional proceeds during the evening included release of a mobile app “Membership Business Card,” which lets TFAS members to avail discounts from participating vendors by TFAS trustee Vamshee Koppuravuri; recognition of Dr. Dattatreya Nori for his contribution by Madhu Rachakulla, felicitation of comedian and performing artist Ali by TFAS trustee Vasant Naidu Tanna; recognition of TFAS trustees Mr. Karunya and Mrs. Himabindu. An appeal made to community members to generously donate to help the victims of hurricane Hudhud in AP by Mr. Paluri resulted in many spontaneous contributions the same evening.

Highlights of cultural programs, which were timely performed under the leadership of Smt. Jagrlamudi, TFAS Cultural Secretary were: performances by local students of “Kavi Nrutya Academy” to showcase traditional Indian dances and western dance adaptations; entertainment by comedian Sri Ali; artful commentary of proceeds and mimicry by Mrs. Madhu; vocal and musical entertainment by Tollywood singers Karunya; and Mrs. Himabindu led musical, comedy and dance performances.

In successfully hosting the annual Diwali celebrations attended by over 1,000 members, TFAS president Sri Srinivas Gandi praised the efforts and contributions of Mr. Suresh Makam, Mr. Balaji Chintamani, and Mr. Ravi Dhannapuneni, among many others, who were individually named and recognized. At last TFAS secretary Smt.Uma Makam concluded the evening’ celebrations.

తెలుగు కళా సమితి జయ నామ సంవత్సర దీపావళి సంబరాలు

జయ నామ సంవత్సర దీపావళి వేడుకల్ని న్యూజెర్సీ తెలుగు వారు తెలుగు కళా సమితి ఆద్వర్యంలో అక్టోబర్ 18 న ఈస్ట్ బ్రన్స్-విక్ మిడిల్ స్కూల్లో ఘనం గా జరుపుకున్నారు. ఈ వేడుకలకు న్యూ జెర్సీ రాష్ట్ర ఉప సభాపతి , కాంగ్రెస్ సభ్యుడు శ్రీ చివుకుల ఉపేంద్ర గారు, ఆంద్ర ప్రదేశ్ శాసన సభ్యులు శ్రీ ధూళిపాళ నరేంద్ర, విశిష్ట అతిధిగా ప్రపంచ ప్రఖ్యాత కేన్సర్ వైద్యులు డాక్టర్ శ్రీ నోరి దత్తాత్రేయుడు గారు, తెలుగు వారిని తమ ఆటపాటలతో రంజింప చేయడానికి ప్రముఖ హాస్య నటుడు శ్రీ ఆలీ గారు, ప్రముఖ సినీ గాయకులు శ్రీ కారుణ్య , శ్రీమతి హిమబిందు హాజరయ్యారు. కార్యక్రమం సాయంకాలం నాలుగు గంటలకి ప్రారంభమయింది.

తెలుగు కళా సమితి ట్రస్టీలు శ్రీమతి ఉమ మాకం, శ్రీమతి శ్రీదేవి జాగర్లమూడి, శ్రీమతి బిందు మాదిరాజు ధనలక్ష్మీ పూజ చేసి జ్యోతి ప్రజ్వలనం తో కార్యక్రమం ప్రారంభించారు. తరువాత దీపావళి సందర్భం గా జరిగిన పోటీల్లో విజేతలకు శ్రీమతి శ్రీదేవి జాగర్లమూడి, శ్రీమతి బిందు మాదిరాజు, తెలుగు కళాసమితి పూర్వపు అధ్యక్షులు శ్రీ ఆనంద్ పాలూరి గార్లచే బహుమతి ప్రదానం జరిగింది. తరువాత పిల్లలచే సాంస్కృతిక కార్యక్రమాలు జరిగాయి. ఈ దీపావళి వేడులల్లో భాగంగా తెలుగు జ్యోతి కార్యవర్గ సభ్యులు శ్రీమతి రాధ కాశీనాథుని, డాక్టర్ శ్రీమతి వైదేహి శశిధర్, మరియు భావరాజు భారతి గార్లచే “సాహిత్య భారతి” సంస్థ తరఫున తెలుగు సాహీతీ కార్యక్రమం జరిగింది. పలువురు సాహితీ ప్రియులు పాల్గొన్న ఆ కార్యక్రమంలో అనేక వక్తలు ప్రసంగించారు.

మధ్యాహ్న కార్యక్రమాల అనంతరం సాయత్రం ఆరు గంటలకు తెలుగు కళా సమితి ట్రస్టీ శ్రీ గురు ఆలంపల్లి ఆధ్వర్యంలో షడ్రసోపేతమయిన విందుభోజనం ప్రారంభమయింది. మొదటగా కవి నృత్య అకాడమీ విద్యార్థులచే భారతీయ సాంప్రదాయ, పశ్చిమ దేశ నృత్య రీతులతో మేళవించిన నృత్యకార్యక్రమం జరిగింది. అనంతరం ప్రముఖ హాస్య నటుడు శ్రీ ఆలీ గారు, ప్రముఖ సినీ గాయకులు శ్రీ కారుణ్య , శ్రీమతి హిమబిందు పాల్గొన్న హాస్య, నృత్య, సంగీత కార్యక్రమం శ్రీమతి మధూ వ్యాఖ్యానం మరియు మిమిక్రీ తో జనరంజకంగా జరిగింది. తెలుగు కళా సమితి అద్యక్షులు శ్రీ గండి శ్రీనివాస్ గారు ముఖ్య ఉపన్యాసం చేశారు. ఆయన మాట్లాడుతూ ఇప్పటివరకూ వారి ఆధ్వర్యంలో జరిగిన కార్యక్రమాల్ని దృశ్య రూపం గా చూపుతూ వివరించారు. తెలుగు కళా సమితి ట్రస్టీ శ్రీ వంశీ కొప్పురావూరి, “మెంబర్-షిప్ బిజినెస్ కార్డు “ అనే మొబైల్ అప్లికేషన్ విడుదల చేసారు. ఈ అప్లికేషన్ ద్వారా తెలుగు కళా సమితి సభ్యులకు ఈ ప్రోగ్రాం లో పాల్గొనే వ్యాపార సంస్థలనుంచి డిస్కౌంట్ సౌకర్యం లభిస్తుంది. ఈ దీపావళి కార్యక్రమంలో తెలుగు కళా సమితి ట్రస్టీ శ్రీ వసంత నాయుడు తన్నా గారిచే మొదటిసారిగా మొబైల్ సేల్స్ పేమెంట్ అప్లికేషన్, దీపావళి ప్రోగ్రాం టిక్కట్లు అమ్మడంలో ఉపయోగించబడింది.

అనంతరం ప్రముఖ సంఘ సేవకులు, తెలుగు కళాసమితి పూర్వపు అధ్యక్షులు శ్రీ ఆనంద్ పాలూరి గారు, తన అత్యంత ప్రభావిత మైన ఉపన్యాసం ద్వారా, తెలుగు కళా సమితి చేపట్టిన హుద్ హుద్ తుఫాన్ బాధితుల విరాళాల సేకరణకు ఇక్కడి తెలుగు వారు ఇతోధికం గా సాయంచేయాలని సభాముఖంగా ప్రకటించారు. అనేకమంది అక్కడే తమ విరాళాలని ప్రకటించడం అందర్నీ ఆకర్షించింది. తరువాత ప్రపంచ ప్రఖ్యాత కేన్సర్ వైద్యులు డాక్టర్ శ్రీ నోరి దత్తాత్రేయుడు గారికి సన్మానం, శ్రీ మధు రాచకుళ్ళ గారిచే సన్మాన పత్ర సమర్పణ జరిగింది. తన కర్తవ్య నిర్వహణలో నిమగ్నులయిన డాక్టర్ గారు రాలేకపోయినా , ఆయన వచ్చినట్లే భావించి తెలుగు కళా సమితి వారు ఆయనని సభాముఖం గా సంభావించడం ఎంతయినా ముదావహం. అది వైద్యులు డాక్టర్ శ్రీ నోరి దత్తాత్రేయుడు గారికి తెలుగు వాళ్ళు ఇచ్చిన హృదయపూర్వక నీరాజనం గా భావించవచ్చు.

తదుపరి తెలుగు కళా సమితి ట్రస్టీలచే ప్రముఖ హాస్య నటుడు శ్రీ ఆలీ గారికి కూడా సన్మానం, శ్రీ వసంత నాయుడు తన్నా గారిచే సన్మాన పత్ర సమర్పణ చేయబడింది. తెలుగు కళా సమితి ట్రస్టీలు శ్రీ కారుణ్య , శ్రీమతి హిమబిందు లను కూడా సన్మానించారు. సాంస్కృతిక కార్యదర్శి శ్రీమతి శ్రీదేవి జాగర్లమూడి గారి అధ్వర్యంలో సభా కార్యక్రమాలు ఖచ్చితంగా ప్రకటించిన సమయానికి ప్రారంభమై జయప్రదంగా ముగిసాయి. శ్రి సురెష్ మాకం, శ్రి బాలాజీ చింతామణి, శ్రి రవి దన్నపనేని మరియు అనేక మంది తెలుగు వారు స్వచ్చంద సేవకులు సహాయం అందించగా, తెలుగు కళా సమితి అద్యక్షులు శ్రీ గండి శ్రీనివాస్ గారు వారికి పేరు పేరునా ధన్యవాదాలు తెలియచేసారు. ఈ దీపావళి సంబరాల సందర్భంగా పలువురు న్యూజెర్సీ వ్యాపారస్తులు తమ సేవల్ని, ఆభరణాలు, వస్త్రాలు, పుస్తకాలు వగైరా ప్రదర్శించి సందర్శకుల్ని ఆనంద పరచారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమానికి సుమారు 1000 మందికి పైగా సభికుల హాజరై, అన్ని కార్యక్రమాలను ఆద్యంతం తిలకించారు. చివరగా తెలుగు కళా సమితి కార్యదర్శి శ్రీమతి ఉమ మాకం వందన సమర్పణ తో సభ విజయవంతం గా ముగిసింది.
