"Ee
thiga poovuna ee komma"
"Bhale Bhale mogadivo"
"Padaharellaku Neelo Nalo"
"Kalasi Vunte Kaladhu Sukamu"
These are the songs in Maro Charitra movie made in 1979 in black
and white. The story revolves around a simple "Telugu - Tamil"
neighboring girl and boy falling in love and later their family
interfere and ask them to remain separate for the whole year which
makes the story end in tragedy. Maro Charitra was picturized completely
in Vizag. I heard that this is the first full-length movie showing
us the beauty of Vizag beach, Bheemli, Gajuvaka etc.
The
story talks a lot about neighboring Brahmin- Non Brahmin wordy
quarrels, father and son disagreements between Ramana Murthy and
Kamal Hassan, pre judged conditions to break-up the love affair
and ends in tragedy. Looking closely there were only handful of
characters and the entire story names only two places, Vizag and
Hyderabad but the way the movie was cooked with tantalizing songs,
picturesque, comedy, romance and dialogues makes you engaged throughout.
Kamal was a rising star at that time and did 100% justice and
debutant Saritha did well in her capacity.
Released
in Telugu first and later in Tamilnadu without dubbing (in Telugu),
the movie ran for a year in Madras. In 1981 Maro Charitra was
remade in Hindi titling "Ek Dhuje Ke Liye" (produced
by LV Prasad) with Kamal Hassan (debut movie in Hindi) and Rati
Agnihotri created box-office waves all over India. The movie shot
Rati Agnihotri and Kamal Hassan to fame and is the most popular
romantic musical in Hindi till date. Kamal Hassan became a heartthrob
with his mustache and handsome looks in India.
Songs
in Hindi:
"Tere Mee Beechme"
"Mere Jevan sathi"
"Hum Bane Tum Bane"
"Solah Baras ki aage umar"
Either
you listen to the songs in Hindi or Telugu, they are the best
and always refreshing.
Some
of the unique of the two movies:
1. Both
Telugu and Hindi versions had SPB in all songs and he did his
best.
2. The songs "Kalisi Vunte Kaladhu" and hindi
"Mere Jeevan sathi" were done in an elevator/lift.
3. Kamal dubbed his voice in Hindi and Telugu.
4. Both Telugu and Hindi versions ran for 365 days in Hyderabad.
