Synopsis:
King of Sparta (Gerard Butler) leads his 300 Spartans to fight one million Persians who advances to invade his country in 480 BC. The story of the film is about how Spartans fought to defend their freedom and democracy by using their territorial knowledge as the strength and employing various fighting strategies.
What I liked in the film?
It is an epic film made in epic proportions by seamlessly incorporating CG work into the visuals. The casting is perfect and the battles are grand. The battle strategies are awesome.
What I did not like in the film?
This film shows Greeks (west) in positive light and Persians (east) in negative light (as homosexuals and monsters). The quotient of violence is pretty high.
The scenes I liked in this film:
1. The shot in which the camera travels into the well after king of Sparta pushes the messenger of Persian king into it.
2. Using the piles of corpses as barricade in battle.
3. The captain repenting that he never said how much he loved his son. (this is a clichéd scene, but well conceived)
4. The queen stabbing the member of counsel.
5. The scene in which king throws arrow on rhinoceros and it collapses at the feet of king. The camerawork used for this shot double the effect.
Tailpiece:
This film is shot in 60 days. But the postproduction work (mostly CG) took around an year. This film is based on Frank Miller's 1998 comic book '300'. 'Sin City' which was also based on comic book of Frank Miller was a great hit on celluloid.
