Synopsis:
A black teenage girls trio Deena (Beyoncé Knowles), Effie (Jennifer Hudson) and Lorrell (Rose) - want to become pop singers since their childhood. Curtis (Jamie Foxx) helps them by appointing them as backup singers for Early's (Eddie Murphy) live shows. Early is a fading superstar. Over a period of time, Curtis launches these three girls as an independent band 'dream girls'. When they decide to go live, Curtis decides that Deena is going to be the main singer even though Effie is more talented. Deena is selected as main singer because she is beautiful and would help to get more following on TV and live shows. The dejected Effie leaves the band after making few albums. The rest of the story is all about how everybody gets back together.
What I liked in the film?
The performance of Jennifer Hudson is just great. The way she communicates her feelings through song is pretty neat. Eddie Murphy is good as the fading pop star. Jamie Foxx proves his mettle again with this film.
What I did not like in the film?
The film is not up to the standards of latest musicals like Chicago and Walk The Line. There is no depth in the film.
