Synopsis:
This is the real story of Edward R Murrow – a legendary American journalist known for his honesty and guts. He exposes Senator Joseph McCarthy who creates fear among the Americans by making false accusations and propaganda about communism. Edward R Murrow takes on this issue and exposes him through his TV bulletins on CBS. This film is titled ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ because these are his closing words in his news bulletins.
What is special in the film?
Since the story takes place during the 40s-60s, the film is presented in black and white pattern. There is intensity in the story and presentation. David Strathairn is extremely good as Murrow. George Clooney has donned different get-ups for this film. (His appearance in Syriana too is noteworthy). George Clooney’ direction is convincing. This film also shows the conflict in media companies between the editorial team and the management.
What I did not like much in the film?
It has the look of a documentary. There is no drama or emotional involvement between the actor and the audience.
Tailpiece: Hollywood produces different biographical films with various narration styles and patterns. Watch it if you like this genre of films. The plus point is its short duration, just an hour and a half.
