Synopsis:
Sidney Young (Simon Pegg) is a frustrated young magazine writer who struggles to get noticed. A desperate attempt by him gets him a chance to work with the number one celebrity high profile magazine called Sharps. The top boss (Jeff Bridges) likes him, but all other staff members abhor him for his stupidity. The rest of the film is all about how he climbs it up the ladder while winning his lady love.
What I liked in the film?
It is a triangular love story. The girl is confused and she loves somebody who doesn’t love her. There is good humor in the film.
What I did not like in the film?
There is forced comedy at place where Young characters fails in attempt to be funny. There is inconsistency in the characterization of Young – he looks silly most of the time and he sound highly intellectual and mature in certain scenes.
The scenes I liked?
1. Entire thread of ‘La Dolce Vita’ that bonds the lead pair.
2. Young getting stripper to his immediate boss’s office room.
3. The ‘Cuba’ (pet dog of upcoming actress) killing episode.
4. The scenes that follow when Young’s father pays him a surprise visit.
5. The concept of traveling from 1st room to 7th room is good.
Tailpiece: This film is in the lines of ‘Devil Wears Prada’ film. If Devil Wears Prada is about a fashion magazine, this film is about at celeb magazine. If you loved Devil Wears Prada, you might end up liking this as well despite of its flaws.
