Synopsis:
He is this woman’s best friend. Though they are close to each other, it never occurs to either that they could be in love. One fine day the man calls up his friend and tells him that he is in love and getting married to that girl in a couple of days. Now this woman wants to steal this guy from his fiancée and marry him. Will she succeed?
What is unique in the film?
The idea of one girl stealing the fiancée of another girl is exciting. The director has dealt with the entire issue deftly without offending sensibilities. The entire film is narrated from Julia Roberts’ perspective. The director has ensured that there is a perpetual suspense element about what is going one in the man’s mind.
Good moments:
Certain scenes bring an involuntary smile to your lips. One scene that made me smile was Julia Roberts falling off her chair as she looks over her shoulder to see if anyone is watching her as she sends fabricated mail. (This scene comes in the 14th chapter of the DVD)
Tailpiece:
I notice that some of the Hollywood films use gays as the heroine’s best friend to ensure that their male friends are jealous. This technique is used to split the couple as well as unite them. Films like Constant Gardener and Along Came Polly too feature a gay as the heroine’s best friend.
