What is special in the film?
Quentin Tarantino’s films grow on you. When I watched it for the first time, I was not so impressed about this much talked about film. However, when I watched it repeatedly, I keep discovering new angles and understanding narration techniques and dialogues. The story of the film is narrated in a different pattern. The film starts without any introduction to the characters or plot. They are introduced in spaced out flashbacks. There is always unpredictability in the film.
The things I liked this film?
1. Mr. Blonde’s psychopathic attitude is good, especially the way the dances to old tunes while torturing the cop.
2. Mr. Pink’s antics like objecting to his name and refusing to tip.
3. The way the cop rehearses his moves much before the real scene.
4. Quentin Tarantino’s dialogues on Madonna’s Like a Virgin.
5. The most beautiful aspect of the film is that though it is a heist film, the heist is never shown on the screen.
What I did not like in the film?
The violence is gross. Normal moviegoers will find it unpalatable unless he is addicted to watching films of extreme violence. Conversations are too long.
Tailpiece:I have seen very few films, which can also be theatre plays as the locations are limited. Two among these films are ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and ‘Phone Booth’. Quentin Tarantino is very much influenced by the films of the east. Reservoir Dogs is said to be inspired by a Hong Kong film ‘Lung fu fong wan’ (City on Fire).
Copycat/Remake: Bollywood hit film Kaante is a remake of Reservoir Dogs. |
