Synopsis:
Edward (Jack Nicholson) is a billionaire. He becomes terminally ill and joins as patient in the hospital he owns. Ray (Morgan Freeman) is a car mechanic in his 60's who is also stuck by cancer. Ray is Edward's roommate in the hospital. Doctors confirm that both these guys will not live beyond one year. Ray writes down the bucket list (a list of things to do before kicking the bucket). Edwards adds his own to the list of Ray. The rest of the story is all about how they take care of their bucket list.
What I liked in the film?
When you realize that your death is imminent in a few months, you do panic. But these two guys take it to realize their unfinished dreams and start living for themselves instead of living for others. In the process they realize that a man's life is measured by the number of people he brought joy for. It is a nice concept with little bit of clichés.
The scenes I liked
1. In the board meeting Edward argues and sticks to his philosophy that two people should share a room and in the next scene when he joins the hospital he asks for a seperate single room.
2. The scene in which Edward says "More people in hospitals die of visitors than diseases".
3. When the doctor says that Edward has only six months left in his life, Edward requests the doc to move aside because he is obstructing TV view.
4. When his assistant says 'I am proud of you', Edward replies to him saying 'Nobody cares what you think'.
5. The scene in which Ray tells how Kopi Luwak (the most expensive coffee in the world) is produced.
Tailpiece:
Two people uniting on the verge of dying and running away from their families to avoid sympathy and pity reminds us of the lead characters in Mani Ratnam's Geetanjali.
