Henri asks Bernard to stay at their place overnight. During the night Bernard and Jeanne fall in love and the next morning they runaway.
What I liked in the film?
It is about the emptiness of a middle aged woman who falls in love with a student. She elopes with him overnight by leaving her rich husband and a baby girl. A French director attempted this kind of bold subject in 1960. The entire sequence of the student taking the lady into new world in the last half-an hour is poetic. Jeanne Moreau is absolutely fabulous.
Tailpiece:
An exhibitor in Ohio was convicted in local court for showing Amants, Les (1958) which is considered as an obscene film at that time. This film was also banned in several states of USA. This film became a major example of freedom of expression in those days.
