Synopsis:

The story is set in the distant future in London. Anarchy prevails. The Government virtually dictates the lives of the people with fear. Then comes the man with the mask – ‘V’. V stands for vendetta. V also has another meaning, which denotes number 5. November 5th is very important in his past. A biological virus test on that day by the Government to instill fear into the people and thousands had died. ‘V’ emerges with the motto of putting the fear into the government and administration with the help of his terrorist tactics. He takes the help of Evey (Natalie Portman) in the final operation of destroying the parliament building on 5 November.

What is special in this film?
I liked the basic plot of the film. It is all about what is an idea. The protagonist says that idea has no shape. That is the reason why he chooses to be masked and prefers to be known to the men only as V. The director handles the film very deftly by connecting the past of V with the future of V in the most logical way. The best thing about this film are the great dialogues, for example

1. Artists create the lies to tell the truth.
Politicians tell the lies to bury the truth.

2. Creedy: Why don’t you die? (After firing innumerous rounds of ammo on V)
V: Beneath this mask, there is no flesh. There are ideas. Ideas are bulletproof.

3. Doc: Are you going to kill me?
V: I killed you 10 minutes ago (then shows the syringe using which he injected virus in her) .

The scenes I liked?

1. V rescues Evey and asks her out for a musical show. When he takes her atop of a building, she asks him about the musical instruments. He shows the clock first and the entire surroundings are rocked by the bomb blasts.

2. Gordon’s comedy TV show on Chancellor.

3. V arranging the cards, as the state is gears up to avert the crisis of 5 November, and then changing the color of the cards with one flick.

4. Supplying masks to the entire city.

Tailpiece: V hijacks a TV station and plays a prerecorded video that exposes the government and reveals his identity. A similar scene is there in Shankar’s Bharateeyudu where Kamal Hassan addresses the entire AP by hijacking a popular TV channel.
