Synopsis:
John McLaughlin & Will Jimeno are two port authority officers caught up in the debris of the world trade center on the fateful day of 11th September. The story of the film is about how rescuers rescue these two officers from the rubble as their family members anxiously wait in a state of confusion and agony.
What is special in this film?
It is very difficult make a film on such an incident. The director carefully interlaced the dark scenes under debris and the bright scenes from the lives of their family members so that we would not get bored. Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena are perfect as the helpless officers. Maria Bello and Maggie Gyllenhaal are very good as the wives.
The scenes I liked:
1. Jesus Christ appearing to Michael Pena with a water bottle in his hand.
2. Nicolas Cage’s son being adamant about going to the WTC to see his father.
3. Michael Pena telling Nicholas Cage to inform his wife about the name he decided for the new baby.
Tailpiece:
This film is based on a real incident and real characters. Oliver Stone directed a political film like JFK. When he is making a film on the 9/11 incident, we expect some political orientation to the film. He did not take any sides and just concentrated on the debris and the lives of the officers.
