Interview with Chandra Siddhartha
Date: May 13, 2010, Hyderabad
chandra siddhartha

Chandra Siddhartha’s Andari Bandhuvaya is all set to release on 14 May. This film features Sharwanand in the title role. Idlebrain.com met the director and producer Chandra Siddhartha for an exclusive interview. Here are the excerpts -

What is Andari Bandhuvaya film all about?
Andari Bandhuvaya film is about the character played by Sharwanand who is a good Samaritan. Sharwanand is basically from a village and he comes to city. He brings the innocence and purity of village along with him. He spreads positive vibrations around and he helps each and every person he encountered in his own sweet way. Sharwanand believes that ‘Jagamantha kutumbam naadi’ (entire world is my family) where as heroine Padma Priya believes in ‘kutumbame naa prapancham’ (my family is my world). And there is a cool love story between these two people who have opposite traits.

Andari Bandhuvaya is a natural, pure and organic story. It is not a preaching movie. Andari Bandhuvaya is a movie of moments and lovable characters. It is completely natural with no melodrama.

The character of Sharwanand in this movie is like the Raghuram’s character 25 years ahead in Aa Naluguru movie. It is my kind of movie.

Is this movie about helping others and spreading the cheer?
Yes. All us have emotions like joy, sorrow, love, hatred, jealous, envy etc. By expressing and taking positive emotions we can make the world a better place. The positive emotions are still there in villages. There is purity in rural India. People are becoming materialistic and negative-minded in the concrete jungle of urban areas.

For example, we went to Pochampally while shooting for Andari Bandhuvaya movie. The people out there are content with what they have. They keep their doors open all the time and they don’t hide their valuables in wardrobes. They went to farming by leaving their houses to us to shoot. It inspired us to incorporate many more nice moments in our movie.

Why do you keep making films based on literature?
Most of my movies are based on novels. Though novelist Balabhadrapatruni Ramani penned the story, it is not from any novel. She prepared this story for the purpose of movie. When I listen to any story by a story writer, I get the first-hand feel like the one audiences get when they watch film for the first time.

How difficult is it to make a small budget film and release it?
Making a small-budget movie is easy. But releasing it is very difficult. Promoting it is far more difficult. It is extremely difficult to get good theatres for a small budget movie in summer. Big budget films and dubbed Tamil films are occupying all good theatres. We are releasing the film on our own with over 50 prints.

How do you intend to promote the movie?
Andari Bandhuvaya is all about helping others. I am planning to coordinate with social service organizations to cross-promote the concept and there by providing extra publicity to the movie.

Why do you make films like Aa Naluguru and Andari Bandhuvaya?
All of us are influenced by the society around us. It is our responsibility to pay back to the society. I feel that I am paying back to society by making films like Aa Naluguru and Andari Bandhuvaya.
