She' so prompt answering calls or SMSing despite her busy schedule. Nayantara is shooting in Chennai for a tamil movie and was committed for a photo shoot. There are meetings to attend, calls to return and some more dubbing sessions to follow. Her phone rings non-stop. She's just returned from Kerala from a short holiday and is again back for a month-long shooting schedule. Phew! A lesser person would have given up long back. But Nayantara enjoys this high-voltage action. In fact, she thrives on it. "I love it," she smiles. "I mean I would hate to live without this buzz of insanity. I love what I do and everything that goes with it. I have taken two three days break after working non stop for five months. Believe me i haven't taken even a half a day break. I need work always and i hate to go chumma idling away my time. "
At the location, her assistant is patting the final touches of make-up. Her long hair swept off her face and her shapely eyes painted prettily, she's red-carpet ready. She exudes the sort of high frequency, restless energy of someone who can't sit still and can't stand confined spaces.
She's dropped many kilos and her washboard abs are visible. She says without any vanity. "I had never worked hard on it. Whenever i'm stressed or i have tensions i tend to lose weight drastically even though i have a normal diet. I had always been on the heavier side and Boss is the first film for which i had lost weight."
Then as the topic moves towards Boss she has a lot to say. "Once the film is over i love to watch it alone. It's just me and no one else. I quite liked it. It's not a bad film neither is it's grand. Usually in a film we want a lot of crowd so that it looks grand but in this film everything was clean and it revolved around only the boss and the secretary. It was soft, subtle and if the film wasn't good i would tell it directly to avoid it. I have done a tamil film in the past where my work was raved but the climax was bad. I'm straight forward enough to admit that it's bad. Boss has a story which was predictable and all it needed was a a little trimming. It's just the media which hasn't liked it. The scenes were nicely shown, emotions were portrayed well.
Does Nayanatara relate to her character to the one the secretary portrayed? Yup, it's quite close. It's not a character that has an ego for the heck of it. It's like a give and take relationship based on respect.
Nayantara, those who know her well will vouch, is a beguiling mix of sophistication and girlishness. Hear her oh so sweet voice and good manners, and you know why film-makers are queuing up outside her door, willing to pay her whopping sums just to get her to green light their projects. Is that true? She quips, "I have always got what i demanded. It's natural to ask more when you have two hits and adjust accordingly when your projects fall in the safe mode. The lifespan of a heroine is short so i believe in making hay while the sun shines."
All the heat and lights surround Nayantara also because she's had the biggest hit this year in Laxmi. It wouldn't be wrong to say that Nayantara is an actress on the verge of becoming a queen bee. With high profile movies like the one with Venkatesh, Yogi with Prabhas, Raviteja film directed by Krishna Vamsi, later this year and the next, she could very well be the numero uno. Words flow unabated as she further talks about a few more of her films in tamil. Talk then veers to the Dusshera festival. "I used to celebrate Dusshera in school, not anymore. But i look forward to celebrating Diwali. I remember when we were in Delhi (her father was an airforce officer) we would have a ball illuminating the entire house, bursting crackers etc. Right from a big bungalow to a small hut every home would be illuminated and that's what i like about the festival."
