An
open letter to editor
Every
movie is a world cup
Dear
Editor,
Idlebrain
is the first place I always visit to get complete/latest information
about Telugu film industry (I hate to use the word "TOLLYWOOD",
it doesn't make any sense to call Telugu industry "TOLLYWOOD"
just because English films are made in "HOLLYWOOD" and
Bombay industry goes by "BOLLYWOOD". Film industry is
a creative media; can't we have our own Telugu name without copying
someone else? ).
I
think you are doing a great job and deserve every word of praise.
Like the popular phrase "with great power comes great responsibility"
you should use your great power within movie buffs for superior
Telugu films in terms of quality and quantity.
Coming
to the point, I personally think that the movie's story part should
be excluded from the review. Knowing the story line before watching
the movie doesn't create the right impact. Don't even worry about
the story line, reviews give you the entire (almost to the end)
screenplay including a shot-to-shot, scene-to-scene narration of
the entire movie excluding the end part in some cases, as if no
one knows that the hero will kill the villain or the hero and heroine
will finally make it.
It
makes me think about knowing the results of all league matches/pre-finals
played in any world cup on the day of the opening (release in terms
of films) and who will be playing in the finals without knowing
the result (climax). Just like we know all the scenes upfront excluding
the ending. Do you think we will still have the same kind of excitement
and fun with World cup may be its cricket or soccer or NFL?
I
do not believe in the common notion that this is a normal practice
across all the film industries and press to write about the story
in movie review and we are just following the norm. We don't have
to do it just because everyone else is doing., don't you think we
can decide what is good and what is bad for ourselves?
When
we read a review, all we should look for is the overall rating and
performance by various artists, music, camera work, editing and
etc. The movie is made for big screen and should be enjoyed in its
entirety.
I
know you are trying to give as much information as you possibly
can about films, but you should draw the line somewhere. I strongly
feel that you should discontinue and discourage people from this
negative trend or whatever. Why do you think all the big names keep
their story lines under tight wraps, isn't it to make the audience
look at the movie with an open mind so they can best judge the movie
upon its strengths and weakness.
The
more people watch Telugu films the better off Telugu industry is
and the better off you and we (movie buffs) are.
Good
luck Idlebrain, keep up your good work.
