                   Poem
                    on Sankranthi by Srinivas Kanchibhotla
                  Introduction:
                  The
mere mention of Sankraanti instantly brings to mind the happy
and colorful images of "rangu muggulu", "gangi
                    reddulu", "gobbemmalu" and "paTTu parikiNeelu".
While enjoying the fruits of the end harvest season, splashes
of greenery, the bounties of the rice bags, and ever present
sound of "eddu ganTalu" are seen and heard all around.
Here is a little salute to the consistent, persistent and
the hardest worker operating in the bottom-most rung of the
society, the farmer, without the toil of whom, none of the
"rangu muggulu" would look just as vibrant, none
of the "gangi reddulu" would sound just as reverberant,
none of the "gobbemmalu" and "paTTu parikiNeelu"
would look just as much alive.
                  Srinivas.
