The film
opens with some fee-style kickboxing - a deliberate attempt
establishes the hero as a fighter. Many more fight sequences
follow.
Chanti
(Raviteja) is the son of a police constable, Venkataswamy
(Kota Srinivasa Rao). He wants to marry the daughter of the
city S.P. who likes Chanti's father for his docile nature.
But as the scenes roll, we begin to feel that the police are
being shown in a poor light as a set of foolish comedians.
Even the S.P. is not spared.
Venkataswamy
aspires to see his son too as a police officer. But Chanti
is interested in winning fights and inviting trouble more
than anything else. The classroom scenes are still worse,
with a lecturer (played by M.S. Narayana) talking through
his hat and being ridiculed by the degree students, who look
like 30-year-olds.
The storyline
is quite brief. During the entire first half of the film,
Chanti treats the girl he loves as his wife. Their meeting
occurs under when the hero lies in a pool of blood on the
road. Suchitra (Rakshita) happens to pass by when Chanti's
friend stops her seeking help. They admit him to the hospital
and Suchitra even donates her blood and clears the bills.
This benevolence is enough for Chanti to decide she is the
best choice for him to marry.
Soon,
Chanti discovers that Suchi is his classmate. Without second
thoughts, he declares his wish to marry her. He also convinces
his mother, whom he addresses by her name Rajyalakshmi (Sangeetha),
about the girl. Suchi is shocked at his behaviour and complains
to her father, the S.P. who duly gets him beaten.
Later,
the S.P. learns that Chanti is the son of Venkataswamy. Even
when he is subjected to severest of punishments Chanti keeps
chanting the love mantra. As the movie progresses, she too
responds to his love.
Now that
his daughter has quietly crossed over to Chanti's side, how
her doting father reacts is what the rest of the film shows.
The paradox of it all comes in the end.
One does
not understand who the 'idiot' is after watching such a farcical
fare. Ravoteja, a minimum guarantee actor now, manages to
perform well amid all the confusion. Rakshita, who plays Suchitra,
is good looking and displays histrionic sense. Among the character
artistes, credit goes to Kota, Sangeeta and Prakashraj.
