Lagna Patrika is statement written by the families of the
bride and the groom to be wed, fixing the 'lagnam' (muhurtham)
for marriage. In this movie, the marriage of a sub-inspector
Subhash (Prithivi) is fixed with Vaishnavi (Sanghavi) and
that of her sister Divaya with Avinash.
But, a day before the event, Divya elopes with her lover Narendra
(Surya) and gets married to him in a temple. She realises
that he is a mafia leader only after Narendra sends two of
his friends into the nuptials room, to her utter shock. Escaping
from them, she returns home. This incident makes Subhash's
parents cancel the engagement of their son Vaishnavi.
In the second phase of the drama, Narendra's henchmen arrive
to take back Divya and while forcing her to move, they choke
her parents (Ramanamurthy and Sangeeta) to death.
It is the turn of a shocked Vaishnavi to launch a tirade against
the villains. She first goes to an unhelpful police officer
(Vinod), in league with Narendra. And then, she meets Narendra's
elder brother Mahendra (Ahuti Prasad), the real don, to seek
justice. But the latter tries to rape her. This is the turning
point in her life, and the story. Vaishnavi stabs Mahendra.
From then on, she becomes 'killer' Vaishnavi. With the help
of Mastan (Jeeva) and journalist Avinash (Manojkumar), who
loves Divya, Vaishnavi eliminates all the rowdies and surrenders
to the police, only to be released in a year to marry Subhash.
Divya is also taken by her former fiancé Avinash. With
its poor theme, the movie is quite artificial as far as action
and fight sequences (by Ram and Lakshman) and Sanghavi's performance
are concerned.
For jeeva, known only for his anti-hero roles, Mastan gives
a different experience. Sanghavi is the only artiste who has
a full-length role, while the rest make occasional appearances.
Ramanamurthy and Sangeeta are cast in dignified roles. Music
makes no impact, except for the title song.
