Prakash
Jha (of Gangajal fame) directed a film titled Apaharan with
Ajay Devagan, Bipasha Basu & Nana Patekar in the main
leads. This film is based on the kidnapping culture in Bihar
state. Praveen Nischal is producing this film. This film would
be releasing on 2nd December 2005. Director Prakash Jha and
Nana Patekar arranged a press meet on 25th November in RFC.
Prakash
Jha about Apaharan -
This film is about a youngster who wants to become an IPS
officer. This guy who hates lies and thefts is forced to join
a kidnap gang. This film is also deals with fundamentals clash
between father and son. The crime of kidnapping has become
an industry over a period of last 15 years in Bihar. Kidnapping
profession has become the last resort for certain people who
could not become doctors an engineers. There are even incidents
when kidnappings happen over cloths and poultry. The business
aspect in kidnapping too changed like collecting ransom money
in installments from the victims who can't pay at once. Apaharan
is like a bridge between the reality and fiction.
Nana
Patekar is playing the role of a minority leader. It took
six months for me to convince Nana Patekar to play this role.
He asked me lots of questions and qualified his doubts before
accepting the role.
We
completed shooting of this film in 70 days. We shot this film
in original locations in Bihar in order to retain original
flavor. We shot the film in Bihar, Nashik Jail and Pune for
55, 9 and 6 days respectively. For my earlier film Gangajal,
the locals in Bihar organized rallies against. Apaharan is
not a typical violence film where ruthless bloodshed is shown.
The violence in this film is shown in the intensity of eyes
of the actors.
Acting
in films is difficult than acting on stage - Nana Patekar
It is difficult to act in films compared to acting on stage.
It's easy to do a play in 2 consecutive hours as the mood
would not be disturbed in the process. In films, there would
be vast difference from scene to scene. If there is gap in
canning continuity scenes, it would be very difficult to carry
on the emotions and remember behavior of character at that
point of time. It took me around 6 takes to do a scene correctly
in Parinda film. This film Apaharan has come out really good.
Prakash Jha and myself have similar thinking pattern. There
is only one song in this film. Ajay Devagan did the role of
a man with noble thinking.
Producer
Naveen Nischal said that Apaharan would be releasing on 2nd
of December.
