Dhoom 2 review by Rajasimha Kesari

dhoom 2

What do you expect when you go to a fantasy park? Do you expect someone to give you a long lecture? Do you want to be made to weep? No! You expect to have a blast of a time. You expect, not to expect anything normal. You want to be taken on a roller coaster ride. And that’s what Dhoom-2 is all about. A roller coaster ride for 3 hours. It will leave you gasping and wanting for more. And most of you might take the ride more than once.

The film is an amalgamation of various good patches from a number of Hollywood flicks. In fact, the ending too is very similar to Yash Raj films’ own “Bunty Aur Bubly”’s ending. There is nothing intelligent about the movie. The heists are entertaining because of the grand style in which Hrithik translates them on the screen. The film is all about style. And Hrithik just dazzles you with style aplenty. Be it either dancing or the different stunts he carries out. I think after the legendary “Ek Pal Ka Jeena” song, this is the only film which showcases the ultra-glam side of Hrithik. This is HIS movie. His screen presence is so captivating that it even makes Abhishek Bachchan look like a character artiste. There was hype before the release of this movie that D2 would be Hrithik’s first negative role. But after watching the movie, I don’t think so. He is the HERO of the movie. In fact he IS the movie. It just happens that his profession is on the other side of the Law.

The movie definitely has some stunt sequences, which are technically good. Thanks to Allan Amin. The standard is no less than any Hollywood movie. And given the excellent marketing of Yash Raj Movies, D2 will make Bollywood proud. Dhoom has all the ingredients to become a Franchise series.

Coming to the leading ladies of the movie, I am speechless! Bipasha is nothing more than a glamorous prop in the movie. But what a prop to have in a movie! Ash may have the entire drool about her beauty. But Bips is simple mind blowing. Ash too looks stunning, but her acting is a big letdown. Especially when you are expecting some good performance from her. She looks too confused in her expressions. May be, the director himself was confused as to how her character had to be fleshed out. Abhishek is apt in underplaying his character. He is specially good in the scenes between him and Hrithik. But the best lines are reserved for Uday Chopra. The audience are in splits whenever he appears on the screen.

The music is no where as good as Dhoom-1. Yash Raj Movies have a tradition of releasing an OST(Original Sound Track) for each of its movies (Hum Tum, Bunty Aur Bubly, Dhoom). But I guess, the music was so insipid, that even the producers (headed by the talented Aditya Chopra) were not in the mood to have an OST.

As I said earlier, the film has a good repeat value. Girls will drool to see Hrithik and Abhishek, and Guys will queue up to see Bips and Ash!
