Sankara Eye Foundation Launches Focus AP Phase -III at TANA Convention Today Sankara Eye Foundation has announced Focus AP Phase -III at TANA convention. Sankara Eye Hospital Guntur was inaugurated in March 2004. TANA Foundation has played a huge role in building the Hospital. Both TANA and BATA have become partners in Service in Guntur Hospital by raising $100,000 each. They have also conducted events to raise funds both for construction and eye surgeries. TANA also sponsors Eye camps every month at the hospital.
Focus AP Phase-III will expand the Sankara Eye Hospital Guntur to 335 beds from 225 beds. Among these 300 beds will serve the patients who cannot pay. The hospital has a unique model of 80:20 ratio of free and paying patients. As of today the the hospital is completely self sustaining. So far 110,000 free eye surgeries have been conducted at Guntur Hospital. The Hospital also runs Rainbow Preventive Eye Care program for children, Diabetic retinopathy program and an Eye bank. It is also a Government empaneled hospital and has received performance excellence award for the year 2010.
Every week the hospital conducts 2 eye camps in the surrounding villages of the hospital, where the patients are screened for eye and other medical conditions. The patients selected for surgery are brought to Sankara Eye Hospital by the bus. The next day they undergo the surgery and after a day of recovery, they are dropped back and a follow-up visit is conducted within 30 days of the operation resulting in high success rates. As of today, the hospital is unable to accommodate the number of patients screened at the camps. As a result, many patients are delayed for surgeries. By expanding the hospital to 300 free beds, we can increase the number of eye surgeries from the current rate of 25,000 to 30,000. We are also adding LASIK laser services. We are opening a satellite hospital in Vijayawada to serve more patients.
Sankara Eye Foundation would like to request your generous support and donations to complete the expansion. The hospital expansion is estimated to cost $1.2M and SEF requests you to consider becoming a Founding donor of the Guntur hospital by donating $1000 and have your name or your loved names by engraved in the hospital premises for ever. Many other sponsorship opportunities are available. Please visit the Sankara booth next to the registration desk and in the exhibition area.
Sankara Eye Foundation would also like to thank TANA for all their support over the period of years and providing opportunity to promote our hospital. |
