January 13, 2007

Akkineni International Foundation instilled ANR Award in 2006 and started giving award by selecting the best actor/actress who contributed their might to Indian cinema. ANR award 2006 was given to Devanand. ANR award 2007 is given to Shabana Azmi at a function arranged in Ravindra Bharati today.

Speaking on the occasion ANR said, “I belong to an agricultural family and luckily landed in films. I built a studio. My sons are acting in films and making films. It won’t stop here. My grandchildren too will contribute to cinema. The idea of ANR award stuck me when I was receiving Dada Falke Award in 1991. Shabana Azmi is a truly deserving candidate. Her father Kaif Azmi is a good poet. Her husband Javed Akthar is a great lyricist and poet. She belongs to the family of artists. She also knows the value of social service and contributed a lot to the society in that position.”

Central minister Mrs. Meera Kumar said, “I am feeling proud to attend this function and felicitating Shabana Azmi. She enlivened the roles offered to her and did inspirational work as social activist. ANR and Shabana Azmi are two celebrities who proved that actors have social responsibilities.”

Responding to the award, Shabana Azmi said, “ANR award is very special to me. It feels good to receive this award in my home town. I am proud to be a Hyderabad woman. There are many people behind success of any actor/actress. I thank all the people who are behind my success. I feel that actors should also partake in social service.”

Venkat Akkineni, Nagarjuna, Sumanth, T Subbirami Reddy and VB Rajendra Prasad also attended the function.
