Award winning director KNT Sastri is directing a film titled Kamli with Nandita Das as heroine. Muhurat of this film was held at Rock Castle, Hyderabad on the morning of 9th June. Ravindra Nayak (MP of Warangal) sounded the clapboard and Rajendra Prasad switched on the camera.
Speaking on the occasion hero Shafi said, “Kamli is an offbeat film. Myself and Nandita are playing married couple. We are doing the role of daily labor. The entire story revolves around our daughter.”
Kamli is based on a real incident - KNT Sastri
Director KNT Sastri said, “The story of this film is based on a real incident that happened in Hyderabad surroundings. This film deals with the lifestyle of Lambadas. It is a heroine oriented film and Nandita Das is playing the title role of Kamli. This film deals with a current social issue. The issue of child adaptation will also be dealt. Soundarya was supposed to do the title role and the demise of her has become a huge upset for our project. It was an easy task for me to prepare the script compared to finding a producer. Fortunately BC Haricharana Prasad from USA came forward to produce this film. This film will be completed in 15 days. We are shooting the film in Rock castle for the first three days. We will shoot the remaining part in slums of Hyderabad.”
I accepted Kamli because it's an art film - Nandita Das
Actress Nandita Das said, “I have done Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films so far. This is my first Telugu film. I got offers in the past to do Telugu films. But I want to do art films. I accepted Kamli because it is an art film. My specialization in graduation was Sociology and I am aware of the problems faced by Lambadas.“
