Kanakam, bilingual film in Telugu and Tamil with feminist leanings, starring Sangeetha, is launched today at Sarathi Studios, Hyderabad. Made on Arunodhaya Movie Makers banner, the flick has the tagline – 24 Caret-Gold. TPFC president Tammareddy Bharadwaja sounded the clapboard for the muhurt shot on the actress. It will have regular shoot schedule from today, till June 15th, with locations set in Hyderabad, Chennai and Pollachhi.

Story, screenplay, production and direction are by debutant Sri Prasad. He says that the film will deal with a burning social problem. It has five songs. Parthibhan is set to play a key role in the Tamil version, while a big hero is expected to don the role in Telugu, he said.

Heroine Sangeetha said: "I play the title role as Kanakam. Arresting narration and good scope for performance made me accept the film. Comedy is given a big place. It will be a nice family entertainer."

Debutant Hemanth Kumar is the music director. Viswanath, Suhasini, Kota Srinviasa Rao, MS Narayana, Nazar, Krishna Bhagwan, Suman Shetty, Vijaykumar and Sriram are among the regular cast.
