Action king Arjun has directed quite a few successful
films in Tamil. For the first time, he is directing
and acting in a Telugu venture titled Sivakasi. This
film also has Jagapati Babu doing another hero role.
Arjun is producing this film on his own banner Sriram
Films International. Popular actress Sumalatha is
the co-producer of this film.
Muhurat
of Sivakasi was held at Annapurna studios on the morning
of 11th June 2005. Dasari sounded the clapboard. MS
Raju switched on the camera and D Rama Naidu directed
the first shot. The other celebrities who graced to
this function include Ravi Teja, Puri Jagan, ML Kumar
Chowdary, Navneet Kaur, Brahmaji and Jaya Sudha.
Hero
Arjun said, "I entered Telugu film industry
as hero in 1984 with the film Maa Pallelo Gopaludu'.
In these 21 years I worked for more than 120 films
and now I am directing my first Telugu film. I share
a good rapport with Jagapati Babu and doing in his
combination again after hit film Hanuman Junction.
Debutant actress Vedika is basically a Kannada girl
settled in Mumbai. D Iman - barely 22 years old -
is a talented guy and is scoring music for Siva Kasi".
Arjun
revealed the backdrop of the film by saying, "Sivakasi
is set in the backdrop of Dharavi slums in Mumbai
which has 35% population of Telugus and 40% population
of Tamils. This film is a mafia flick propagating
the gun culture. Myself and Jagapati Babu are playing
the characters of Siva and Kasi respectively. This
film would be extensively shot in Mumbai, Hyderabad
and London."
Jagapati
Babu said, "I made a mafia film titled Gayam
which was a blockbuster. I have not repeated any film
of that genre as I did not get the right subject.
Sivakasi falls into that genre of stylish mafia flick.
There is lots of subtleness in my characterization.
I have become a great admirer of Arjun after watching
Oke Okkadu film. We share good rapport. This film
would be a treat to my fans and Arjun fans."
Heroine
Vedika, music director D Iman and cinematographer
Selvaraj also spoke during this press meet and expressed
their gratitude of working for this film.
