A devotional TV serial titled Vrata Mahatyam, starring Sana in the lead role as Goddess Bhudevi, is launched today at Annapoorna Studios, Hyderabad. The serial will have 200 episodes depicting 42 types of Vratas in the Puranas; and will be telecast on Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams-run Sri Venkateswara Bakthi Channel. Bobbili MP Smt. Botsa Jhansi sounded the clapboard on actress Sana. Yesteryears heroine Jamuna switched on the camera. Popular lady comedian Ramaprabha did the first shot direction. Story is provided by Borra Subramanya Sastry. Producer is SV Ramana and direction is by Rajachandra Varma. Pratap Vidyasagar scores the music.

Jamuna said: "Today, most of the women are unaware of the various rituals and vratas with relevance to their wellbeing and that of their husbands and families. To fill this gap, a number of channels have come to propagate the Bakti cult. The role of TTD though its own channel is commendable. Girls of our modern time wear mini skirts and sleeveless tops and they don't anything about vratas. It is not their fault, but the relevant information is not reaching them. I hope this serial will be great help in spreading devotion."

Botsa Jhansi said: "Most of the religious practices are disappearing. A serial like Vrata Mahatyam is of great value to the present generation hit by globalization. These vratams will help women attain perfection in their lives and endear them to the family members and neighbors in general."

Sana said: "It is the net result of goodness that I might have done in my previous births that I am playing this holy character of Goddess Bhudevi."

Producer Ramana and director Rajachandra Varma thanked the TTD for giving them an opportunity to make the serial. Sunil Babu (playing Lord Balaji's role) and Delhi Rajeswarai (playing a vital role) also spoke on this occasion.
