Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death in India. It causes immediate damage to human body and can lead to long-term health problems. The only proven strategy to protect yourself from harm is to never smoke.
Radio Mirchi in association with Omega Hospitals launched the “Quit smoking” campaign on the eve of No Tobacco day, 31st May. This campaign profiles people from Hyderabad to support quit smoking by signing on a pledge board.
Famous Tollywood celebrity Rashi Khanna of Oohalu Gusagusalade fame and Dr. Nirni, Senior Medical Oncologist, Omega Hospitals, launched the campaign at Inorbit mall on 28th May. On this educational drive they mentioned the harmful effects of smoking and how it affects someone emotionally and advised the youth of current generation to quit smoking.
Since its launch, the pledge board has signatures from former smokers living with smoking-related diseases and disabilities and the toll these conditions have taken on them. The campaign, which continues for 4 days till May 31st 2016, has also featured non-smokers who have experienced life-threatening episodes as a result of exposure to second hand smoke.
