In the showbiz for the past 50 years, leading producer Allu Aravind believes that the most important aspect a producer should have to make a successful career is his ability to judge a script. “Then he should know which director can deliver the best out of the subject, followed by looking for a hero who fits it appropriately. When these three factors fall in line with each other, most of the time the producer won’t miss the target unless and until some unfortunate things happen during the making,” he noted in a recent interview.

He added with a smile, “Also, there should be some X-factor to be consistently successful and I’m still searching for my X-factor.”

Given his rich vein of experience, Aravind warns to never take the audience for granted as they can surprise you. When asked about the biggest surprise that the audience has given him, he said, “I didn’t expect Magadheera to achieve the success it did. I’ve spent a lot; I was prepared for a loss and all. The success was beyond my imagination. Similarly Jhonny’s result was also a surprise. It wasn’t just accepted by the people. Pawan (Kalyan) was at the peak of his career when the film was released but people didn’t accept it.”

With the theatre-going audience dwindling after the pandemic and the emergence of varied OTT platforms, how does he see the future of cinema? “For me cinema is entertainment and entertainment is going to be seen by people. If Game of Thrones is coming to theatres and if I have to purchase 10 tickets to view it, I will be the first to buy tickets and see it on a big canvas. I’m so optimistic about theatres. And I’m constructing a big multiplex now. If I thought cinema would be dead, I wouldn’t have built the multiplex. I started constructing it after the pandemic and my belief is that theatres are going to work for a long time,” he stated.
