Allu Arjun was granted interim bail of four weeks by Telangana High Court on Friday minutes after Nampally court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with the stampede that occurred during the premiere of Pushpa 2 on December 4, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman, Revathi, while leaving her son Sreethej critically injured.
Earlier in the day, the actor was brought to Chikkadpally Police station for questioning from his residence before he was arrested by the cops. He was taken to Gandhi hospital for a checkup and later was presented before Nampally court, which ordered him to judicial custody. The actor has been taken to Chanchalguda Jail amid tight security.
At the same time, the Telangana High Court on Friday was hearing a quash petition filed by the actor in relation to the stampede.
Granting the bail, the bench observed, “It's actually bothering me. Just because he is an actor, can he be held like this? There are no ingredients...On this earth, he has the right to life and liberty. It can't be taken away by virtue of being an actor.”
Senior counsel S Niranjan Reddy appeared on behalf of the actor, who has been asked by the court to execute a bond of Rs 50,000. He is likely to be discharged late in the evening.
