The trailer of Animal, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, was released by the makers on Thursday. It was dropped simultaneously in other languages like Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
The 3.32 minute-long trailer opens with an interaction scene between Arjun Singh (played by Ranbir) and Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), with the former asking his papa to replay a scene from his childhood. As Arjun, Balbir makes a fairly good impression of the school-going Arjun, but it’s Arjun who apes his dad to faultlessness, guaranteeing goosebumps. The scene sets the tone for the rest of the trailer as it centres on the truculent relationship between Balbir and Arjun, who grew up seeking his dad’s validation. “He adores you; you are his superhero,” Balbir’s wife tells Balbir. The trailer then fast forwards to Arjun becoming a bloodthirsty criminal and leading a gang while taking on anyone who comes in his way. Seeing this metamorphosis of his son, Balbir, addressing his wife, says: “We’ve given birth to a criminal.” Arjun is later seen taking on a raft of adversaries and killing them brutally. “Your love for your father is not affection; it’s a disease,” Geetanjali (Rashmika Mandanna) tells her husband Arjun, unable to bear his violent side. After a murder attempt on Balbir, Arjun gets back to his father’s house and promises the employees of his father that he will slit the throat of the one who has tried to shoot his dad, much to their glee. From thereon, he takes things in his hand even if it means not taking his dad’s approval- for a change. “I’ll burn Delhi to ashes if anyone dares to touch you,” Arjun assures his dad. The last part of the trailer shows a glimpse of Bobby Deol, who while dressed in a suit, has blood splashed all over his body. The trailer ends with him taking on Arjun in a tarmac.
Rounding up, the trailer is first-rate and explores a toxic and tumultuous relationship between a father and son carved in blood, while promising a no holds barred family drama of the highest order. Ranbir is in supreme form, transforming from a child who loves his dad to someone who goes any lengths to protect him while his aggressive streak causes a lot of trouble for his wife and dad. Anil Kapoor is just outstanding, embodying a man in his 60s to perfection.
A joint production venture between Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Murad Khetani and Pranay Reddy Vanga, Animal is set to hit theatres on December 1.
Basically #Animal is about a father-son relationship which is complex. It appears like the protagonist has daddy issues and these psychological issues scarred him for life and shaped him into an animalistic person (wild and violent).
