On Telugu screens, films with a kabaddi backdrop have always won the love of audiences — and, along with that appreciation, they’ve also brought in solid collections. Kabaddi Kabaddi, Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu, and Okkadu stand as examples. In the same genre comes another film, Arjun Chakravarthy, which is set to release on the 27th of this month.

As part of the film’s promotions, hero Vijaya Ramaraju and Malayalam actress Sija Rose, who play the lead pair, gave an interview to Jeevi from idlebrain.com. Vijaya Ramaraju said that he got the opportunity to act in this film through its dialogue writer.

Vijaya Ramaraju said…
“Before this movie, I played the villain in Ram Gopal Varma’s Bhairava Geetha and a police officer in Palasa 1978. After those, Arjun Chakravarthy began. Of all the films I’ve done, the role of Sebastian in Palasa 1978 brought me the most recognition,” he shared.

Talking about his first film Bhairava Geetha, he said, “At the audition, they kept asking me to remove my shirt again and again, giving me a new scene every couple of hours. I got irritated after a point. I couldn’t understand what was going on and was almost ready to walk away from the film. At that time, I didn’t even know that the film was being presented by Ram Gopal Varma.”

He revealed that Arjun Chakravarthy has already won 46 awards at international film festivals. To portray a kabaddi player, he had to be very careful and disciplined. He said, “For a real sportsman, height is an advantage. But as an actor, my height has given me many struggles. I’m half an inch taller than Rana. In fact, I’ll be seen in a key role in Prabhas’ upcoming film Fauji. If the role is good, I’m ready to play even a supporting character. While heroes having great height is fine, most directors don’t prefer villains being taller. Only a rare few directors like Rajamouli make exceptions.”

Heroine Sija Rose said…
“When I first heard the story, I loved the director’s idea of narrating the life and struggles of a real kabaddi champion whom many people don’t know about,” she shared. She mentioned that she admires Shobana, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, and Manju Warrier.

She added, “The first Telugu movie I watched was Magadheera. Allu Arjun has a huge fan base in Malayalam. Harassment against women exists everywhere. Just like in Malayalam cinema, I hope women’s importance grows in all other industries as well.”

Speaking about Ram Gopal Varma, Vijaya Ramaraju said…
“His way of thinking is extraordinary. Keeping his personal life aside, I like him a lot when it comes to cinema. If he sees potential in anyone, he encourages them. If he feels our suggestion is strong, he accepts it. That’s why, professionally, I admire him a lot.”

తెలుగు తెరపై కబడ్డీ నేపథ్యంగా వచ్చిన చాలా సినిమాలు ప్రేక్షకుల మన్ననలను పొందాయి. మన్ననలకు తగ్గట్టే కలక్షన్లు కూడా అంతేలా రాబట్టుకోగలిగాయి. దానికి కబడ్డీ కబడ్డీ, భీమిలి కబడ్డీ జట్టు, ఒక్కడు సినిమాలే ఉదాహరణలు. అదే కోవలో మరో సినిమా 'అర్జున్ చక్రవర్తి' ఈ నెల 27 న ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు రాబోతుంది. ఈ సినిమా ప్రమోషన్లో భాగంగా ఈ చిత్రంలో హీరోహీరోయిన్లుగా నటించిన విజయరామ రాజు మరియు మలయాళ నటి సిజ్జా రోజ్ ఐడిల్ బ్రెయిన్ జీవీకి ఇంటర్వ్యూ ఇచ్చారు. 'అర్జున్ చక్రవర్తి' మాటల రచయిత ద్వారా ఈ సినిమాలో నటించే అవకాశం లభించదన్నారు హీరో విజయరామ రాజు.

హీరో విజయరామ రాజు మాట్లాడుతూ...
"ఈ సినిమా కంటే ముందు రామ్ గోపాల్ వర్మ భైరవగీతలో విలన్ పాత్ర మరియు 'పలాస1978' లో పోలీస్ ఆఫీసర్ పాత్రలను చేసాను. వాటి తరువాతనే 'అర్జున్ చక్రవర్తి' సినిమా ప్రారంభమైంది. నేను చేసిన సినిమాలన్నింటిలో 'పలాస1978' సినిమాలో స్టెబాస్టియన్ పాత్రకు మంచి పేరొచ్చింది " అన్నారు. తన మొదటి సినిమా 'భైరవగీత' కోసం ఆడిషన్ కు వెళ్ళినపుడు పదే పదే చొక్కా విప్పించడాలు, రెండు గంటలకొక కొత్త సీన్ ఇవ్వడం చేసేసరికి ఇరిటేట్ అయిపోయానన్నారు. అసలేం జరుగుతుందో అర్థం కాక ఓ దశలో ఆ సినిమా నుండి బయటకు వచ్చేయడానికి సిద్ధమైపోయానన్నారు. అప్పటివరకూ ఆ సినిమాను రామ్ గోపాల్ వర్మ ప్రెజెంట్ చేస్తున్నారన్న విషయం తనకు తెలియదన్నారు.

'అర్జున్ చక్రవర్తి' సినిమా అంతర్జాతీయ ఫిల్మ్ ఫెస్టివల్స్ లో 46 అవార్డులు గెలుచుకుందన్నారు విజయరామ రాజు. ఈ సినిమాలో కబడ్డీ క్రీడాకారుడిగా కనిపించడం కోసం చాలా జాగ్రత్తలు పాటించాలన్నారు. ఒక క్రీడాకారుడికి ఎత్తు అదనపు బలమే అయినా ఒక నటుడిగా ఆ ఎత్తు వలన చాలా ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కొన్నానన్నారు. హీరో రానా కంటే అర ఇంచ్ పొడుగుంటానన్నారు. రాబోయే ప్రభాస్ 'ఫౌజీ' సినిమాలో కీలక పాత్రలో కనిపించబోతున్నానన్నారు. మంచి పాత్ర అయితే సపోర్టింగ్ కేరక్టర్ అయినా చేయడానికి సిద్ధమన్నారు. హీరోల వరకూ ఎత్తు ఎక్కువగా ఉండటం పర్వాలేదు గానీ విలన్ పాత్రలకు ఎత్తు ఎక్కువగా ఉండటమన్నది చాలామంది దర్శకులు ఒప్పుకోరన్నారు. అత్యంత అరుదుగా రాజమౌళి లాంటి కొందరు దర్శకులు మాత్రమే దానికి మినహాయింపుగా ఉంటారన్నారు.

హీరోయిన్ సిజ్జా రోజ్ మాట్లాడుతూ..
"ఈ కథ విన్నప్పుడే చాలామందికి తెలియని ఒక రియల్ కబడ్డీ ఛాంపియన్ గురించి, ఆయన జీవితంలో ఎదుర్కొన్న ఒడిదుడుకుల గురించి ఈ కథ ద్వారా చెప్పాలన్న దర్శకుడి ఆలోచన నాకు బాగా నచ్చింది" అన్నారు. తనకు శోభన, శ్రీదేవి, మాధురీ దీక్షిత్, రేఖ మరియు మంజు వారియర్ లు అంటే చాలా ఇష్టమన్నారు. ఇంకా ఆమె మాట్లాడుతూ.. "తెలుగులో నేను చూసిన ఫస్ట్ మూవీ 'మగధీర'. అల్లు అర్జున్ కు మలయాళంలో చాలా పెద్ద ఫ్యాన్ బేస్ ఉంది. ఆడవాళ్లపై వేధింపులు ప్రతి చోటా ఉంటాయి. మలయాళం పరిశ్రమలాగే మిగిలిన పరిశ్రమల్లో కూడా స్త్రీల ప్రాధాన్యం పెరుగుతుందని ఆశిస్తున్నా" అన్నారు.

రామ్ గోపాల్ వర్మ గురించి చెప్తూ... "ఆయన ఆలోచనా శైలి అద్భుతం. ఆయన వ్యక్తిగత జీవితం ప్రక్కన పెడితే సినిమా రంగంలో ఆయనంటే నాకు చాలా ఇష్టం. ఎవరిలో అయినా దమ్ముంటే ఆయన ఎంకరేజ్ చేస్తారు. మనమిచ్చే సలహా సైతం బలంగా ఉన్నట్టు అతనికి అనిపిస్తే మన సలహాలు కూడా ఆయన స్వీకరిస్తారు. అందుకే అతనంటే నాకు వృత్తిపరంగా చాలా ఇష్టం" అన్నారు విజయ రామ రాజు.
