In a shocking bit of news, acclaimed music composer AR Rahman’s wife Saira Banu on Tuesday announced separating from her husband after nearly three decades of togetherness. Vandana Shah and Associates released an official statement regarding her decision to split earlier tonight.
“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. A R. Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira emphasised that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life,” the statement read.
Rahman and Saira were seen together at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding in Mumbai earlier this July. Saira has been a pillar of strength for Rahman as his fame transcended boundaries over the years. However, she always kept a low profile.
The couple has three kids — two daughters, Khatija and Rahima, and a son named Ameen Rahman.
On the work front, Rahman’s next releases include Chhaava, Thug Life, Ramayana Part I & Part II and #RC16. He is also set to pay an ode to the nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar as part of a ‘memorial talk’ at the 55th edition of IFFI, Goa.
