The trailer of Bhoothaddam Bhaskar Narayana (BBN), featuring Shiva Kandukuri in the lead, was released by actor Vishwak Sen in Hyderabad on Saturday and truth be told, it promises to be an edge-of-the-seat murder mystery.

The two-minute-45-second teaser opens with a gruesome murder committed near a place which sits between the borders of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. A serial killer is on the loose and it’s his 17th murder in 18 years. His method of working involves chopping off the head of the victim, displacing it, replacing it with a dhisti bomma and throwing it off in the forest. And so, the police gave the murders the tag Dhistibomma murders. We are later introduced to Bhaskar Narayana (Shiva), a young detective who grows up admiring famous detectives. As the police are unable to find any clue to nab the serial killer, Narayana decides to solve the case, which has become a prestige issue for him. He soon understands that the serial killer is not committing murders but is offering the victims to God as bali. “He has meticulously planned and committed murders for the past 18 years,” Bhaskar says about the killer. How he gets to the bottom of the case forms the rest of the story.

Overall, while the detective angle seems to have traces of Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, the story, however, appears to be fresh with mythological and occult elements thrown here and there, promising a riveting murder mystery with enough twists and turns. Shiva Kandukuri as a young detective who is navigating choppy waters shows potential, while the background score piques the interest.

Written and directed by Purushotham Raj, BBN is a joint production venture between Snehal Jangala, Shashidhar Kasi, and Karthik Mudumbi. It lands in cinemas on March 1.
