The annual report of BookMyShow has placed Prashanth Neel’s KGF: Chapter 2, headlined by Yash, as the most watched and highest selling Indian film of the year. It sold 2.14 million tickets on the day of its release (April 14), emerging as the best-selling film on the platform.
“In fact, K.G.F. 2 sold 34% of overall tickets for weekends alone and broke a five-year long record by surpassing Baahubali 2 to become the top-selling film on BookMyShow with a whopping 17.7 million tickets sold overall,” a report read.
KGF was followed by RRR, Beast, Ponniyin Selvan-1, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness in terms of advance ticket bookings, while Kantara, Karthikeya 2, The Kashmir Files, Sita Ramam and 777 Charlie also find a mention in terms of highest tickets sold for the year.
Cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Kochi and Vizag were at the forefront when it comes to booking online. The year also saw a 116 percent spike in cinegoers preferring for immersive experiences like 3D, IMAX 2D, IMAX 3D and 4DX over regular screens.
