Ustaad Ram Pothineni on Thursday dropped the trailer of his uncle Sravanthi Ravi Kishore’s production venture, Deepavali, the Telugu dubbed version of Tamil rural drama Kida, which has Poo Ramu and Kali Venkat in the lead roles. “Very intriguing..looking forward to watching this. GET Ready for the GOAT story The Critically acclaimed & Award-winning film #Deepavali In Theaters on NOV 11th,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) while attaching a link to the trailer.
Almost three minutes in length, the trailer begins with Abbulu (a goat with voiceover by Saptagiri) narrating its bond with a young boy who constantly accompanies the former throughout the village every day. The boy loves Abbulu. Their bond goes through a major upheaval when Diwali nears. The boy yearns for a fancy dress and his grandfather readily obliges but the dress price is too steep for him. Left with no option, he decides to sell off the goat. However, as it’s a votive offering, nobody in the village is ready to buy it. Soon, a butcher (Kaali Venkat) who loses his job due to his addiction to alcohol comes forward to acquire it to put up his own shop. He strikes a deal with the grandfather. But lo and behold, some miscreants kidnap the goat along with other goats in the village to make quick bucks. What entails next forms the story. It is also peppered with an intricate love story.
Overall, the trailer is cut neatly and establishes the story and the conflict well. Saptagiri’s voiceover for the goat brings in certain quirkiness and the characters mirror the ones you see in daily lives of a rural set up, while promising an endearing little film with indie vibes.
Directed by RA Venkat, the film also features Deepan, Pandiyamma Vijaya and Kamali, while music has been composed by Theeson. Deepavali is Ravi Kishore’s first brush with Kollywood cinema.
#Deepavali trailer is heartwarming. It’s about a goat and the poor family (especially the kid) that owns the goat.
Saptagiri’s voice-over (for goat) makes this trailer very interesting.
