Turning a year older on Thursday, Naga Chaitanya had a perfect gift for his fans– the trailer of his highly-talked about streaming debut Dhootha. Directed by Vikram K Kumar, the eight-episode series, also featuring Parvathy Thiruvothu, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Prachi Desai in key roles, drops on Amazon Prime Video beginning December 1 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Nearly two and-a-half minutes in length, the trailer opens with Sagar Varma (played by Naga Chaitanya), a powerful journalist of Samaachaar newspaper talking to attendance at an event that it’s the journalists who question the system. He is someone who is proud of his profession and doesn’t know that the same profession comes back to bite him in the end. Things take a turn in his life when clippings of old newspapers predict horrible events that have a serious effect on people close to him. Soon, he sees himself framed for a murder which he didn’t commit, while a cop Kranthi (Parvathy) is assigned to get to the bottom of the case. The investigative journalist that Sagar is, he must race against time to prevent the series of these unfortunate events before things spiral out of hand completely.
After the acclaimed 13B, Vikram Kumar seems to be in a familiar territory– of supernatural elements causing havoc in the protagonist’s life. Visually, the series seems to be top-class and Vikram employs fast cuts in the trailer to mentally prepare the audience for an edge-of-the-seat ride. Overall, the trailer is a perfect concoction of unpredictability and supernatural elements, promising a riveting and fast-paced suspense thriller. Chay is pushed to the limits as an actor and he seems to have come up trumps.
