The trailer of Vishwak Sen-starrer Gangs of Godavari was dropped by the makers at an event in Devi Theatre, Hyderabad on Saturday and it promises to be a no-holds barred political action drama with Vishwak Sen in regal form.

The two-minute-18-second teaser opens with Goparaju Ramana’s voiceover describing three kinds of people: first, the substandard quality, second, the vain category and third, the superior quality. We are later introduced to Rathna (Vishwak Sen), who certainly belongs to the third category. He is a young leader who harbours big dreams in his locality. His sudden ascent to the top obviously has some enemies who want him either to be arrested or killed. But Rathna is scared of none. When cops come calling to his home, he, against the advice of his well-wishers, thunders, “Naa oollo naakentira bayam (Why should I be scared in my own village)”. The trailer later cuts to his romantic side as it shows him fall head over heels in love with Bujji (Neha Shetty) at first sight. At one point, Rathna seems himself cornered by the cops, while some assailants attack his family. How he rises to the challenge and eliminates his enemies seems to form the crux of the story. The trailer ends with Rathna declaring himself to be a tiger, while suggesting that there are just three kinds of people: “Men, women and politicians.”

Overall, the trailer has all bases covered for a powerful political entertainer, with drama, one-liners, romance and action in equal measure. Writer-director Krishna Chaitanya seems to have unleashed the beast in Vishwak– from the way the latter twirls his retro-style moustache to mouthing powerful one-liners Godavari accent and flaunting his devil-may-care attitude, Vishwak is extraordinary in the trailer. The background score by Yuvan Shankar Raja complements the different beats of the trailer well.

Also starring Anjali, Nasser, Sai Kumar and Hyper Aadi, Gangs of Godavari, a joint production venture between Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas Banner, will hit the screens on May 31st.
