"Producers who cannot control budget are better off not making movies at all" – Rajeev Reddy

Rajeev Reddy, a close friend of renowned director Krish Jagarlamudi, is also a producer. Along with Saibabu Jagarlamudi, he is producing the film Ghaati, which is set to release on September 5. As part of the promotions, Rajeev Reddy gave an interview to Idlebrain Jeevi. Beginning with their 25-year-long friendship, Rajeev Reddy walked through their journey together from Gamyam to Ghaati.
Both Rajeev Reddy and Krish completed their master’s degrees in the U.S. While pursuing their studies, one of them worked part-time at a motel while the other worked at a gas station. Rajeev Reddy recalls how, even 25 years ago, during university functions, Krish used to write skits and narrate them with the same passion with which he narrates scripts today.
Speaking about Krish, he said that Krish is very aggressive by nature, and often he wonders if Krish might have been somewhere else—or even grown faster—had he not been involved in his life. He added that during Gamyam, both of them had decided that if anything went wrong with the film, they would pack their bags and either return to business or go back to the U.S. But since Gamyam was successful, their journey in cinema continued. He likened Krish to his first wife, saying that they still quarrel every day.
Rajeev Reddy further said: “Before Konda Polam, Vaishnav Tej had already earned a good name with Uppena. The film was completed 80% during the COVID period itself with a small budget, so Konda Polam was a safe project. Even if my judgment went wrong in that film, personally I liked it a lot.” He revealed that, along with UV Productions, they are producing Korean Kanakaraju, directed by Mekalpati Gandhi, starring Varun Tej.
About Ghaati, he said: “From the time the script was written, we couldn’t imagine anyone else other than Anushka in this role. She will take part in the film’s promotions as much as possible. Around 35% of the budget has already been recovered through OTT. Because we moved forward with a proper plan, the project is currently in a safe zone.” He added that while risk is zero in television and OTT, in cinema, the risk is as big as the reward.
He stressed: “Whether it is cinema or business, whoever undertakes it must have complete control over it. As a producer, if one cannot control the budget of a film, it is better for them not to make films at all.”
He also mentioned that a big film is in the works and will be announced in two to three weeks. When Jeevi asked if it was the film with Balakrishna, Rajeev Reddy said discussions were happening and that it would be more appropriate for them to make the announcement themselves.

క్రిష్ చాలా దూకుడుగా ఉంటాడని, అతని జీవితంలో తను లేకపోతే... "ఎక్కడో ఉండేవాడేమోనని, అతని ఎదుగుదలను ఆపుతున్నానేమో" అని చాలాసార్లు తనకు అనిపిస్తుందన్నారు రాజీవ్ రెడ్డి. 'గమ్యం' సినిమా జరిగినప్పుడే ఆ సినిమా విషయంలో ఏదైనా తేడా జరిగితే బ్యాగులు సర్దుకొని ఇద్దరం మళ్లీ వ్యాపారం వైపో లేదంటే అమెరికా వైపో వెళ్లిపోవాలని ముందే అనుకున్నామని, 'గమ్యం' మంచి ఫలితాన్ని ఇవ్వడంతో అక్కడి నుండి సినిమా ప్రయాణం కొనసాగిందన్నారు. రాజీవ్ రెడ్డి తనకు మొదటి భార్య మాదిరే అని, తమ మధ్య రోజూ గొడవలు జరుగుతూనే ఉంటాయన్నారు.
రాజీవ్ రెడ్డి ఇంకా మాట్లాడుతూ.... "కొండపొలం సినిమాకు ముందు హీరో వైష్ణవ్ తేజ్ కు 'ఉప్పెన' సినిమాతో మంచి పేరు వచ్చింది. సినిమా కూడా తక్కువ బడ్జెట్ తో కోవిడ్ టైంలోనే దాదాపు 80% పూర్తి చేసేయడం జరిగింది. దాంతో 'కొండపొలం' సేఫ్ ప్రాజెక్టు అయింది. 'కొండపొలం' విషయంలో నా జడ్జిమెంట్ తప్పినా ఆ సినిమా నాకు వ్యక్తిగతంగా చాలా ఇష్టం" అన్నారు. యూవీ ప్రొడక్షన్స్ తో కలిసి మేకర్లపాటి గాంధీ దర్శకత్వంలో వరుణ్ తేజ్ హీరోగా 'కొరియన్ కనకరాజు' సినిమా చేస్తున్నామన్నారు.
'ఘాటీ' గురించి చెప్తూ... "ఘాటీ సినిమా విషయంలో కథ రాసినప్పటి నుండే అనుష్క కాకుండా ఇంకొకరిని ఊహించుకోలేదు. ఆమెకు వీలైనంత వరకూ ఈ సినిమా ప్రమోషన్లో పాల్గొంటారు. ఈ సినిమా బడ్జెట్ లో OTT తో దాదాపు 35% రికవరీ అయిపోతుంది. సినిమా అనుకున్నప్పటి నుండే ఓ ప్రణాళికతో వెళ్ళడం వలన ప్రస్తుతానికి సేఫ్ స్థానంలోనే ఉండగలిగాం" అన్నారు. టెలివిజన్ మరియు OTT రంగాల్లో రిస్క్ శూన్యమని, సినిమాల్లో ఎంత రిస్క్ ఉంటుందో అంతే రివార్డు కూడా ఉంటుందన్నారాయన. అది సినిమా అయినా, వ్యాపారమైనా చేసిన వ్యక్తులకు వాటిపై పూర్తి నియంత్రణ ఉండాలని, ఒక నిర్మాతగా ఎవరికైనా ఆ సినిమా బడ్జెట్ పై నియంత్రణ లేదంటే ఆ నిర్మాత సినిమాలు తీయకపోవడమే మేలన్నారు. ఒక భారీ సినిమా రూపకల్పన జరుగుతోందని, రెండు మూడు వారాల్లో ఆ ప్రకటన ఉండబోతున్నారు. "అది బాలకృష్ణ తో చేయబోయే సినిమాయేనా" అన్న జీవి ప్రశ్నకు సమాధానంగా ఆ సినిమా చర్చల్లో ఉందని, ఆ సినిమా గురించి వాళ్లు ప్రకటించడమే సబబన్నారు.
