Regardless of the final outcome of his films, Vishwak Sen’s films have always enjoyed robust openings and last Friday it was no different as his latest release, Gangs of Godavari (GoG), emulated the same feat.

After taking a bumper initial, the film continued its hold in the weekend despite competition from other releases like Bhaje Vaayu Vegam and Gam Gam Ganesha. GoG did a pre-release business of Rs 8 crores in both the Telugu states and by the end of yesterday, it managed to recover 82 percent of its investment.

In Nizam, which is Vishwak’s strong forte, the film managed to collect a share of Rs 2.48 cr in the first three days, while the next best figure came from Ceded which accounted for Rs 1.29 cr. From Vizag, the collections stood at Rs 77 lakh, while from East Godavari the revenue was Rs 52 lakh. Combining the total from other revenues, the overall haul stood at an impressive Rs 6.62 cr.

Gangs of Godavari, written and directed by lyricist-turned-director Krishna Chaitanya, narrates the rag to riches story of Lankala Rathnakar, while S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya have jointly produced it under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas. The likes of Anjali, Neha Shetty, Naseer, Goparaju Ramana and Hyper Aadhi played supporting roles, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
