Ever since its release on Sankranti, Prasanth Varma’s Hanuman has been an unstoppable force at the box office and is continuing to do so even in its third week. While it has been steady at the Hindi box office, in Telugu, however, it has done wonders for its budget.

In Hindi, Hanuman now holds the distinction of overtaking KGF: Chapter 1 collections. With decent collections from the Hindi belt in the weekend (1.40 cr on Saturday and 1.60 cr on Sunday), the film has now Rs 44.44cr in its kitty, surpassing KGF’s figure of Rs 44 cr nett. It is now one of the 12 top dubbed movies in Hindi from south. Interestingly, out of the 12, eight are from Telugu cinema.

In the US, where it continues to cast its spell, it breached the coveted $5 million milestone. It’s the only fifth Telugu film to achieve this landmark, while the first Telugu film to do so with normal ticking pricing.

Another number that made the makers of Hanuman super happy are the footfalls. It’s believed that the film has attracted a humongous 1 crore footfalls so far and by the end of its theatrical run (it wouldn’t be available to stream any soon); it wouldn’t be a surprise if the film manages to accomplish more records.

Set in the fictional village of Anjanadri, Hanuman follows the story of an ordinary guy Hanumanthu (played by Teja) who unexpectedly gains superpowers. A formidable super villain later (played by Vinai Rai) enters his life and how he takes on the former, while saving Anjanadri forms the crux of the story. Niranjan Reddy Kandagatla has produced it. Hanuman marks the beginning of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), which will be followed by Jai Hanuman and Adhira.
