The raunchy number Kaavaalaa Ayya from superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer has been a smash hit, inspiring thousands to ape its signature moves on Instagram reels. Interestingly, portions of the song had Telugu lyrics, a reason why it had its share of admirers down here as well.
That begs the question why a Tamil song has Telugu lyrics, right? Apparently, there’s a story behind it. In Jailer, Tamannaah plays the role of a Telugu actress and it’s a specially designed part. The song is about her part welcoming an investigating officer (Rajinikanth) who comes to Hyderabad, prompting director Nelson to employ Telugu lyrics for it. While initially the song opened to mixed reviews in Tamil, overtime though it gained significant popularity for its appealing fusion of Tamil and Telugu, peppy music, catchy lyrics, scintillating dance moves (it was choreographed by our own Jaani master) and the tribal aesthetics production design.
Also, part of giving pan-India appeal to the film, Nelson has roped in actors from various industries: Mohanlal - Malayalam, Shiva Rajkumar - Kannada, Jackie Shroff - Hindi and Sunil - Telugu. Ramya Krishna will be seen as Rajinikanth’s wife in the film, which opens in cinemas on August 10, while the US premiers will be held on August 9 itself, with Prime Media US attached to distribute it over there.
Additionally featuring Yogi Babu, Vinayakan, Vasanth Ravi, Mirna Menon, Naga Babu, Jaffer Sadiq, Kishore, Billy Muralee, Sugunthan, Karate Karthi, Mithun, Arshad, Marimuthu, Rithvik, Saravanan, Aranthaangi Nisha, and Mahanadi Shankar in supporting roles, Jailer is a Sun Pictures production.
